Since the latest update dropped on May 13 and interrupted the Singularity Party, the players have been overwhelmed by all the amazing changes. This update has probably gotten the best reviews so far, with new Illuminate units, buffs, and Weapon Customization quickly winning over the community. Well, get ready for round 2! The Helldivers 2 developers have just announced that they’ll apply the long-requested change to the Galactic War system soon.
The Galactic War System Is About to Be Improved
On May 14, Baskinator, the Community Manager, took to the official Helldivers 2 Discord to share the big news. Apparently, after much consideration, the devs decided to make some changes that will improve the players’ experiences.
She noted: “We are performing an update to our backend logic that will change the way “impact” is dealt. Impact is the “liberation” that players deal to enemy planets or defend events. It used to be that Helldivers needed to complete an operation (usually 3 missions) in order for impact to be distributed”.
So, what’s the change? Baskinator explained: “Now, each mission will deal impact, and completing an operation will then deal bonus impact. This is primarily done to make sure that everyone performing missions can safely say that they have contributed to keeping the galaxy safe, without the need to have the operation complete”.

Helldivers 2 Players Love the Upcoming Change
Let’s be honest, this is a great change! Some players don’t have the time to complete the entire operation, so their efforts will still count in the future. So, obviously, the Helldivers 2 community appreciated this fix to the Galactic War System.
Mavcu noted: “For those of us, who just don’t feel like hammering out 3 missions in a row. Let me join a random group for a mission or two, without feeling “forced” to participate in another game on top of that (or two) so I know I’ve contributed. Squeezing in the odd game here and there can be quite fun without being overly time investing”.
PoliticalAlternative added: “This is great! I always feel disappointed when the host bails on mission 2/3 and I get sent back to my ship without completing the op and helping progress the planet”.
This is such a thoughtful change. And, changes such as this one show that the developers truly care for the players’ experience. So, the next time the devs say they’re cooking, let’s give them some space, as they just delivered a five-course meal.
While we wait for the controversial Masters of Ceremony Warbond to drop, let’s enjoy everything the update brought. In other words, let’s fry some Squids for the Major Order. Meet us on Widow’s Harbor. For Liberty and Super Earth.
