“Are We Sure It Was the Gloom?” Helldivers 2 Players Theorize About the Origin of the Predator Terminids

“Are We Sure It Was the Gloom?” Helldivers 2 Players Theorize About the Origin of the Predator Terminids

Since February 15, when they received the latest Major Order, the players have been fighting the new strain of bugs. It’s been, um, interesting. The Predator Terminids are quite aggressive toward Helldivers 2 players, so there have been many casualties. The best way to deal with a problem, especially a problem this big, is to discover what caused it (and where). So, where did these bugs come from, and what made them this way?

Are the Predator Bugs From the Gloom?

Fenrir III, the target planet of the current MO, is at the border of the Gloom. Thus, naturally, many Helldivers assumed the mutated bugs came from the Gloom. Even the in-game alert stated: “Likely to have developed in the Gloom”.

However, over the last couple of weeks, there have been plenty of leaks about what Helldivers could expect from an expedition into the Gloom. Players will get special Objectives, and they’ll probably get to fight yet another new strain of bugs.

These “Gloomed” bugs (also referred to as spore burst bugs) look quite different than the Predator strain. They are pale and look almost ghostly. Players theorized that was because of the lack of sunlight, as it couldn’t reach them through the thick Gloom. So, if the Predator strain is from the Gloom, why are those bugs so different? As expected, there are a couple of theories about the true origin of Predator Terminids in Helldivers 2.

The Squids Could Have Created Predator Terminids

Of course, the top theory among the Helldivers is that the Illuminate created these mutants. And is there a better way for the Squids to distract the Helldivers than to cause a problem on another front?

One player, JKLer49, noted: “…  out of all the possible mutations, the bugs get the mutation that makes them invisible? It’s more likely that the squids did it because we all know they are the masters of invisibility and illusion tech”.

Truth be told, it’s kind of convenient for the Squids that the Predator strain appeared right after they destroyed Angel’s Venture. It’s possible they knew the divers would be thirsty for ink, so they released the Predator strain as a distraction.

Helldivers 2 Players Dread That Super Earth Created Predator Bugs

Unfortunately, this theory gained a lot of attention recently. As you know, for a while now, some undemocratic players have been suggesting that Super Earth was actually bad. Following the demise of Angel’s Venture, some Chaosdivers brought back these claims.

Don’t tell our Democracy Officer, but there might be something there. It seems that plenty of Helldivers forgot about the Xenoentomology Center on Turing. Now, as you know, Turing is quite close to Fenrir III, so it wouldn’t be that hard for the spores to spread.

We know that the scientists at the Xenoentomology Center are doing all sorts of experiments on the bugs, in order to get as much E-710 as possible. We also know that there has been at least one breach, who knows how many more weren’t reported? Who knows what escaped?

However, we’d like to remind you that Helldivers aren’t made to speculate on this matter. They are made to spread Managed Democracy. We’ll do so on Erata Prime for the next couple of hours. Will you join us? For Liberty and Super Earth.
