Most Powerful Vampires In Anime, Ranked
Plenty of anime series feature supernatural creatures, and vampires are no exception. Here are some of the most powerful bloodsuckers anime has shown.
Some of these immortal creatures are truly remorseless and powerful anime villains, but not all of them serve villainous roles. Vampires also aren’t confined to one particular anime genre, which allows fans of all sorts of genres to get their fix one way or another. The anime medium is home to a range of supernatural beings, and though there is no shortage of female anime vampires, some are arguably a lot more iconic than others.
Updated March 17, 2025, by Mark Sammut: The Winter 2025 season has not had much in the way of supernatural entities. That said, Ishura includes a vampire anime girl in its extensive cast, and Linaris features in one of season 2’s best segments. However, due to the show’s ensemble approach to storytelling, she has only appeared in one episode so far.
This article has been expanded with three more female vampires.

Karin Maaka (Karin)
A Bubbly Girl With A Lot Of Blood

Karin
- Release Date
-
November 3, 2005
Twisting the mythos on its head, Karin‘s eponymous girl is the direct opposite of the typical vampire, at least when it comes to blood. Rather than drinking blood to survive, Karin needs to get rid of excessive blood, a process that involves finding “victims” willing to drink it. Accomplishing that is not easy, and things become even more stressful when a new student arrives in her class.
Karin is primarily a rom-com, with the story following Karin and Kenta’s gradual relationship as they grow closer. The vampire angle provides an interesting gimmick and early plot hook, but it is mostly pushed to the side after a while. Fortunately, Karin is incredibly charming and carries this show on her back, although Kenta is not a bad male lead either.

Mireille Manson (Trinity Blood)
A Truly Diabolical Villain

Trinity Blood
- Release Date
-
April 29, 2005
There are plenty of vampires who are not entirely evil. They can be capable of good deeds, or they can be outright heroines in their own right, but this is not the case with Mireille Manson of Trinity Blood, who is as dastardly as villains come.
War has broken out between vampires and humans, and Mireilla Manson is one of the former, originally posing as a nun in order to kidnap a very special child with telepathic abilities. But kidnapping is not her only crime, as members of the Fleur du Mal have been found guilty of many counts of murder, extortion, and kidnapping, showcasing the depraved depths of cruelty these specific vampires are willing to stoop to. Mireille is a character that anime fans will love to hate.

Redcurrant (The Ancient Magus’ Bride)
Though Her Heart May Not Beat, it Still Loves
Though not the main star of The Ancient Magus’ Bride, Redcurrant became a noticeable and memorable side character because of her story and relationship with Joel who, unlike this blood-drinking creature, was just a normal man with a love for writing. She always found herself drawn to passionate artists who weren’t too old, and Joel was no exception.

Carmilla (Undead Murder Farce)
A Powerful And Alluring Vampire

Undead Murder Farce
- Release Date
-
July 6, 2023
Despite the name, only one character in this anime is an undead of the fanged variety, and that is Carmilla. In Undead Murder Farce, three characters travel the world, undertaking cases revolving around the supernatural, which there are plenty of.
Though Carmilla only plays a minor role, her short stint was enough to cement her as a fantastic vampire character, thanks to the excellent visual design of her character and her bewitching personality. Anyone who spends enough time around her is sure to be enthralled.

Saya Otonashi (Blood+)
This Young Protagonist Carries Many Regrets

Blood+

Kamyu (Utawarerumono)
Her Vampiric Nature Introduced A New Side To Her Character
Utawarerumono features one of the strongest gods in anime as well as all kinds of supernatural creatures, including vampires. This thrilling anime masterfully blends political intrigue with mythical action and has well-crafted and likable characters like Kamyu.
Kamyu’s story is especially interesting since the cute girl went through a serious change because of the Onkamiyamukai. After her transformation into a vampire, her thirst for blood emerged, and fans could meet a whole new side of one of their favorite characters. This iconic vampire princess struggles a lot with her new vampiric nature since it’s so different from her naturally kind and caring personality.

Avrora Florestina (Strike The Blood)
Makes A Heavy Sacrifice That Adds Depth To The Narrative

Strike The Blood
- Release Date
-
October 4, 2013
Strike the Blood is a brilliant harem anime series with plenty of powerful characters, but none of them are as selfless as Avrora Florestina. This beautiful vampiress sacrificed her powers to Kojou Akatsuki, elevating him to the status of the Fourth Progenitor, while she descended into a seemingly endless sleep.
While Kojou’s escapades drive Strike the Blood‘s narrative, it’s Avrora’s haunting legacy and the weight of her sacrifice that give meaning to it all. The deep bond she shares with Kojou is felt throughout the story and influences his every decision and battle. Although she might not be such an active part of the story, Avrora is its very heartbeat, since her story gives depth to a world that’s filled with fantastical beings and intense fights.

Seraphim (Is This A Zombie?)
A Vampire AND A Ninja?

Is This A Zombie?
- Release Date
-
January 11, 2011
Primarily a parody of magical girls, Is This A Zombie? incorporates quite a few archetypes and themes, throwing all in the mix in the hope of creating something memorable and hilarious. For the most part, this decision was a success, as the anime is just all-around entertaining.
Showing up in search of Eucliwood, Seraphim makes a pretty great instant impression, largely thanks to her adversarial relationship with Ayumu. The two do not get along at first, although they gradually manage to find some common ground and work together. Sera does not emphasize her vampire origins all that much throughout the series, and she is arguably more of a classic ninja. That said, she does have her moments.
13
Yue (Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest)
Completely Dedicated To Hajime

Arifureta: From Commonplace To World’s Strongest
- Release Date
-
July 8, 2019
- Network
-
AT-X
- Directors
-
Kazuya Fujishiro, Natsumi Yasue, Takao Kato, Ryo Miyata, Masayuki Iimura, Satomi Nakamura, Taiji Kawanishi, Shintaro Itoga, Motoki Nakanishi
Arifureta is by definition a harem anime, with Hajime fairly quickly finding himself surrounded by female suitors who (mostly) belong to different races. That said, his main romantic partner is very clearly Yue, the powerful vampire he meets right after he is left to die by his classmates. While Hajime saves Yue, she also effectively saves his life, sparking an unbreakable bond that never falters throughout the rest of the show.
Yue is a good character in isolation as well, but she is heavily defined by her relationship with Hajime. In the sequel seasons, she is mostly just reduced to the male lead’s main love interest, and she is often reduced to a background figure as other female characters take center stage.

Krul Tepes (Seraph Of The End)
Her Cute Looks Hide A Cruel Nature
Even though Krul Tepes has one of the cutest looks of all the anime vampires, she’s one of the most selfish and cruel anime characters ever created. The story follows a teacher called Tetsuo who teaches in a school with demis and normal humans.
6
Sunako Kirishiki (Shiki)
Another Shiki character, Sunako is the anime’s poster child and arguably the most recognizable figure, even more so than Megumi. Looking very much like a doll, Sunako gives off an air of innocence, while still being pretty creepy at a glance.
As more is revealed about the vampires, the anime gradually paints Sunako in a different light, showing her to be mature and authoritative. Her goal is to ultimately find a place where shiki can live without hiding, and she would like to accomplish this while minimizing violence against humans. That said, she will kill if necessary. Nowadays, Shiki can be somewhat difficult to track-down, but Sunako will always be one of the most iconic female anime vampires.
5
Shalltear Bloodfallen (Overlord)
Though A Shameless Flirt, Shalltear Is Still A Proud Guardian
In the Overlord anime, there is a place called the Great Tomb of Nazarick, guarded by several Floor Guardians. The first three floors are guarded by a ‘true vampire’ by the name of Shalltear Bloodfallen, a name that suggests true, bloody, and visceral power.

Though she doesn’t suffer fools or failure, she isn’t completely unreasonable and will spare those who are given an impossible task. She can be rather flirtatious, but she also maintains an innocent ignorance about certain matters in life and is proud of her status as a Guardian and true vampire. Her young age does mean she is prone to immature actions such as fits of rage or depression when things don’t go her way, but this makes her more relatable and human.

Seras Victoria (Hellsing)
Has An Arsenal Of Powerful Supernatural Abilities
Seras Victoria is one of the most iconic heroes who was turned into a vampire by Alucard. After her transformation, she got stronger with every new kill and increased her superhuman abilities. Suffering from insomnia and just generally restless, Kou is a middle-schooler who spends his nights wandering the empty streets, directionless for the most part. However, one time, he meets an enigmatic woman named Nazuna, who ends up being a vampire. Kou is instantly captivated by her and her lifestyle, and he begs her to turn him into a vamp.
