Best Quirks For Close Range In My Hero Academia

Best Quirks For Close Range In My Hero Academia

Summary

  • Mt. Lady’s Gigantification Quirk makes her a powerhouse in close combat.
  • Mirio’s Permeation ability allows him to phase through attacks and launch surprise strikes.
  • Endeavor’s Hellflame brings devastating close-range attacks, showcasing his power.

While there’s always a time and place for a long-ranged Quirk to work its magic, most heroes will prefer to take down a villain with a mighty punch or kick, and it’s fair to say there are more than a few Quirk abilities in My Hero Academia that encourage this. In the world of My Hero Academia, Quirks can come in all sorts of weird and odd forms, including those that can either expand a person’s body to make them stronger, or fuel them with some kind of energy to improve their fighting abilities.

Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia: Ultra Age: The Final Fan Book offers a lot of interesting information for fans of the now-concluded manga.

Needless to say, any hero or villain lucky enough to acquire these kinds of Quirks will be able to dish out some serious damage at close range, but when comparing them all in terms of power and overall reliability, how do they match up? These are the best close-ranged Quirks that have been seen in My Hero Academia’s story.

Spoiler Warning: this list will contain spoilers up to the end of season seven in the My Hero Academai anime.

Gigantification

Mt. Lady Was Able To Pull Off Some Incredible Feats Thanks To Her Size And Strength

As someone who is able to grow to the point of becoming a giant, Mt. Lady can easily squash a group of villains if they aren’t fast enough to escape her blows. Mt. Lady can determine the size at which she grows, but when fully transformed, she’s powerful enough to hold off even the strongest of villains.

For example, Mt. Lady was the only hero capable of standing up to the rampaging Gigantomachia, which managed to buy the heroes just enough time to organize a plan of attack before he arrived to cause chaos. She’s a true powerhouse who is more than worthy of being called a Pro-Hero given her durability and strength in close-quarters combat.

Permeation

Being Able To Land A Hit On Mirio Is Easier Said Than Done Thanks To His Permeation Quirk

With Permeation, Mirio is able to become completely intangible, meaning he will phase through everything the moment he activates it. Punches will go straight through him as he falls into the ground, making it almost impossible to land a hit on him. It’s a tricky Quirk to use effectively, but Mirio has put in a lot of work to make it usable.

My Hero Academia Vigilantes: 8 Best Story Arcs, Ranked

Just like the main series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has had some incredible story arcs, but which are the best of them all?

Mirio is able to maneuver himself in a way where he can launch a surprise attack on the opponent after activating the ability and phasing through the floor. Additionally, he also possesses the reflexes needed to phase through an enemy’s attacks when they start getting a little too close for comfort. The Quirk has some serious drawbacks, primarily that Mirio needs to hold his breath the entire time, but it’s still extremely strong.

Fa Jin

A Lot Of Preparation For A Giant Burst Of Damage

  • Users: Bruce Lee / Midoriya

Fa Jin is the Quirk Midoriya inherits from Bruce Lee, one of the previous holders of One For All. The way it works is, by powering up a part of their body through repeated physical motions, the user can charge up their power before then unleashing it in one final burst when they find the right moment.

Midoriya would use Fa Jin, in conjunction with other Quirks, for the first time against Lady Nagant, who was instantly taken out of action by his 100% Faux attack. Though it doesn’t get too much screen time, it’s clear the immense speed of Fa Jin greatly enhances the strength of Midoriya’s attacks when he decides to use it in dire situations.

5

All For One

Once All For One Takes Hold Of His Opponent, He Can Sap Them Of Their Abilities

To say All For One is an overpowered Quirk would be selling it short. This unique ability allows the user, who just so happens to be the evil mastermind All For One, to steal another person’s Quirk after making physical contact with them. As shown when Hawks has his Fierce Wings stolen late in the final war, this process only takes a few seconds, and it leaves the opponent completely defenseless.

In fact, All For One is so strong that the villain of the same name managed to steal an entire arsenal of other Quirks, with nobody being able to protect themselves against his terrifyingly strong ability. All For One may not be all that technical or flashy, but in a fight, it can easily get the job done.

4

Explosion

Anyone Who Dares Stand up To Bakugo Better Be Prepared To Get Blown Away

Bakugo is able to turn his nitroglycerin sweat into explosions, making him one of the best heroes around for taking out swarms of villains with large and deadly AOE attacks. The ability may seem simple, but it can be used in many different ways. That being said, Bakugo isn’t someone who cares much about looking good in battle, so he usually opts to simply jump in his opponents’ face before facing his palm towards them, letting the explosions fly.

Though they are both powerful heroes, Bakugo has traits that give him an advantage.

As the series goes on, Bakugo starts to learn how he can use Explosions to help with his mobility too, allowing him to close the gap on a villain much more easily by shooting himself forward at lightning speed. His Quirk Awakening is also extremely strong, though it does take a massive toll on Bakugo’s body in the short term.

3

Hellflame

Endeavor Has No Quarrels About Getting Up Close And Personal If He Needs To

Endeavor is able to use Hellflame in a few unique ways. While he can fire out massive flame blasts from a safe distance, his eagerness to see a villain suffer usually encourages the merciless Pro-Hero to get a little closer to his opponents, where his flame-covered body can scorch the opponents before he delivers a final blow.

While most villains will go down after just a few fiery haymakers, some of the more stubborn enemies may require Endeavor to pull out his ultimate attack; Prominence Burn. By firing this off at point-blank range, Endeavor can turn a villain into smithereens. This kind of power is a testament to Endeavor’s position as the number 1 hero of Japan after All Might was forced to retire.

2

Decay

With A Single Touch, Shigaraki Can Erase His Enemies From Existence

Decay is one of the deadliest Quirks in the series, and while it’s relatively straightforward in how it works, it’s an incredibly difficult ability to counteract. When Shigaraki places his hand on a living person, they will slowly start decaying without any way to fight back. As a result, the tragic villain is able to eliminate anyone who gets on his bad side by barely even lifting a finger.

Shigaraki’s Quirk has taken down several tough opponents in the series, with arguably the most notable being Star and Stripe, the number 1 hero of America, who was eventually thwarted by All For One’s protégé after one of the most epic fights in the series. Anyone who is brave enough to get close to Shigaraki ought to be fully aware of just how dangerous this guy truly is.

1

One For All

Midoriya And All Might Can Blast Away An Opponent With A Single Punch

  • Users: Vestiges / All Might / Midoriya

Though One For All is a very hard Quirk to master, anyone who can get to grips with it and can tap into its underlying energy will be able to unleash some absurdly strong attacks. All Might was taking down villains every few minutes in his heyday, and he was literally unstoppable for many years thanks to One For All. In the main story, despite being at the tail end of his career, All Might was still so strong that he broke through Nomu’s regeneration ability just by barraging him with strong enough punches.

Midoriya would also demonstrate the immense raw power of One For All many times, one of the most memorable being when he exceeded 100% to obliterate the dangerous villain Muscular after the latter bulked up his defenses. Anyone who acquires One For All essentially turns into a superhuman, though as they say, with great power comes great responsibility; something Midoriya comes to find out throughout the story.
