Black Myth: Wukong was a certified hit last year, racking up 20 million copies sold in its first month. To close out Tuesday’s showcase at Gamescom Opening Night Live, developer Game Science revealed it plans to follow up Wukong with a new entry in what it’s calling its Black Myth series — Black Myth: Zhong Kui.
Zhong Kui “shares the same foundation of ancient Chinese myth and folklore,” according to the game’s FAQ page. It’ll star Zhong Kui, the “ghost-catching god who wanders between Hell and Earth,” as Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley put it.
Like the first game, Zhong Kui will be an action RPG. And don’t expect to hear more about Zhong Kui anytime soon. In the FAQ, the studio says it doesn’t yet have a timeframe for when Zhong Kui will release; it simply wanted to share its progress with players, as it does every August.
Whenever the game does come out, we do know Zhong Kui will launch on PC. Game Science said it’ll come to “all mainstream console platforms,” with more information coming at a later date. But the Zhong Kui release may not be simultaneous across all platforms: Black Myth: Wukong was on PlayStation 5 for an entire year before launching on Xbox Series X.
