Why is the Duelist class the most popular one? What is it about playing DPS that is so appealing to Marvel Rivals players? Players who play tanks and support can’t give out unbiased answers to these questions, but they are tired of playing solo every time.
There Is an Obvious Difference Between the Classes in Marvel Rivals
Since the very beginning of the Preseason, it was obvious that the devs paid the most attention to Duelists. If you combined the number of tank and support Heroes, there would still be more DPS Heroes. So, the pleas for more Vanguards and Strategists began in January.
As new Heroes were added, it became clear that there would never be as many tanks and Strategists as there were Duelists. Solo tanks became quite desperate at some point, but thankfully, Emma Frost arrived and helped out this class.
On the other hand, Strategists are barely holding it together. This is probably the hardest role to play, but also the most unappreciated one. Instead of helping out their support players, other Heroes usually take them for granted. This led to a massive strike, where support players started refusing to fulfill their roles.

Some Players Loath the So-Called DPS Instalockers
It isn’t easy being a solo tank/support when the rest of your team is made up of Duelists. So, what is it about playing DPS that has so many Marvel Rivals players enamored with the role? Well, the majority of answers came from tanks/Strategists, and they didn’t have many nice words for their fellow players.
Sykuno7 suggested: “It’s a combination of many things, I would say. Firstly, it is ego. Then, 90% of people I see in Ranked, even in current plat, are people who just play Ranked as casual, so they try any character they want, as they don’t care about winning. The third, probably because the support experience is currently not fun and not rewarding”.
ZeusOfOlympus stated: “Honestly, my take is they don’t want to, simply as that, they like their characters and they like DPS, they want to PEW PEW, and don’t want to play tank or strategist. So they don’t. They would rather lose than switch, add they know in 80% of cases someone else will finally switch”.
Now, we are all for the idea of everyone getting to play the game as they want. However, this is a team-based game, so sometimes a compromise is needed. That doesn’t mean one should just entirely stop playing DPS, but rather, if you see there’s only one Strategist or tank, switch and help them out. Everyone deserves to have fun, and non-DPS players haven’t been having fun for a while. Let’s help them out! The new mode is silly enough that you can try some other roles. Enjoy, and see you out there.
