Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Leak Is Bad News for Some Users

A new leak from a credible industry insider claims Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 won’t be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch, despite Microsoft’s deal with Nintendo to bring new Call of Duty titles to Nintendo consoles on the same day as Xbox. Although Activision has already confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, fans were holding out hope that a Switch 2 launch would also arrive on day one.

In 2023, while Microsoft was in the midst of acquiring Activision-Blizzard, the studio announced that it had signed a 10-year deal with Nintendo that would bring future Call of Duty games to Nintendo platforms. The deal was made to assure regulatory bodies that its acquisition of Activision was consumer-friendly, and with the deal having been finalized in the very same year, it was clearly a smart move. A statement from Microsoft explained that the deal would “bring Call of Duty to Nintendo players” on the same day as Xbox (and presumably PlayStation and PC). The studio went on to explain that the Nintendo versions of Call of Duty would include all of the same features and content as other platforms.

Black Ops 7 Likely Not Coming to Switch 2 at Launch

Despite this deal, neither Activision nor Microsoft has revealed whether or not Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. While it’s still very much a possibility, reliable industry insider Billbil-kun, who has a perfect track record when it comes to release dates, platforms, and pre-orders, has claimed via Dealabs that the next Call of Duty game won’t be available on the Switch 2 at launch. The new report corroborates a previous leak that Black Ops 7 will launch on November 14, but further investigations from the insider claim that Nintendo’s new flagship console won’t be receiving the game at launch, but it may arrive later down the line.

Billbil-kun’s report comes just a couple of months after a previous rumor from Kotaku, which claimed that both Microsoft and Nintendo are “still working” on getting Call of Duty on the Switch 2. The two reports seem to be hopeful that Black Ops 7 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 at some point in the future, but despite the two studios’ prior agreement, it’s looking unlikely that the shooter will be available on the platform at launch. Whether or not this is due to the hardware limitations of the Switch 2, or another matter entirely, remains a mystery.

Further details could be revealed pretty soon, as the worldwide reveal of Black Ops 7 is set to take place on August 19 as part of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. So far, very little of the next Call of Duty game has been shown. Activision shocked fans with a cinematic story trailer back in June, but it has been silent ever since. With the title expected to launch in just a few months’ time, fans can likely expect the first official look at gameplay during its worldwide reveal next week.
