Call of Duty HQ has just experienced a massive server outage, with titles such as Black Ops 6, Warzone, Modern Warfare 3, and more going offline for nearly 30 minutes. Thankfully, the Call of Duty team acted swiftly to bring the shooter’s servers back online. But many fans were left twiddling their thumbs during the downtime, as nearly every modern Call of Duty game was affected by the mysterious outage.
Server outages such as these are extremely rare, but they further solidify players’ many concerns with the Call of Duty HQ app. For those who may be unaware, publisher Activision opted to integrate all new Call of Duty titles into a single app with the launch of 2019’s Modern Warfare. This means the entirety of the rebooted trilogy, as well as all new Black Ops games from Cold War onwards, and the series’ free-to-play Battle Royale game, Warzone, are all under the same roof. The app has already caused mass outrage over the years, as players find it to have a clunky user interface and take up far too much storage space. But with the HQ app now experiencing a massive server outage this week, it’s just one more reason why fans want to see Activision move away from the feature.

Call of Duty HQ Just Went Offline
On June 24 (or June 25, depending on your timezone), Call of Duty experienced a massive server outage that briefly brought Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6, and Warzone offline. Call of Duty was quick to notify players of the outage, taking to the CODUpdates Twitter account to confirm that it was investigating an issue preventing players from connecting to the game’s services. Shortly after, the team announced that services were stabilizing and players could reconnect. The last time such a massive outage occurred was back in April, when Warzone servers were taken offline in preparation for the return of Verdansk. But the recent downtime was not planned and has left many wondering what could have gone on behind the scenes.
Initially, it looked like the recent outage only appeared to have affected titles within Call of Duty HQ, but Twitter user Detonated quickly noticed that both Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile had also been taken offline. It’s unclear if Activision experienced some sort of cyber attack or if there was merely a technical issue that occurred behind the scenes. While it makes sense for all titles under the Call of Duty HQ app to be affected by the outage, Black Ops 4 is a seven-year-old Call of Duty game and is only available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, which makes the outage a whole lot more mysterious.
Fans are also hoping that this won’t have an effect on Call of Duty‘s highly anticipated Season 4 Reloaded update, which is rumored to be launching in the coming days. There have been very few details on the mid-season update as of yet, but Activision did recently reveal that a new Call of Duty x Beavis and Butt-Head collaboration will be added to the game with the update. Fans will be able to get their hands on the iconic cartoon characters in the form of brand-new operator skins.
