Summary
- Limited party size in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33; only 5 members, 3 in battle, 2 reserves.
- Building a strong party involves considering party types and utilizing key Lumina allotments.
- Lumina like Burn Build, Death Build, and Healing/Tint Build can enhance strategy and gameplay.
For a turn-based RPG, the party is relatively small in this game. Players will essentially have five party members to work with for most of the game beyond a certain point in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 which does contain some spoilers for those interested. In battle, players can form a party of three and if those three characters die, the two reserves will pop in to finish the fight but they cannot be swapped manually unlike Final Fantasy 10 as an example.

7 Common Mistakes To Avoid In Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Players can easily fall into these common pitfalls in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Here’s what to avoid for the best gameplay experience.
So, there are a lot of factors to consider when forming the best party in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 with so few members. That’s why party types will be considered, including defensive or offensive types. A good Picto allotment, which can unlock Lumina to equip, is one of the best ways to make a strong party even better. Also, it goes without saying, but once Painted Power gets unlocked, which can break the damage limit of 9,999 HP, that should be equipped to every Lumina build. So, let’s go through all of the ways Lumina builds can help break the game.
5
Burn Build
Burn Baby Burn
- Beneficial Contamination: +2 AP On Applying Status Effect
- Breaking Burn: 25% Break Damage On Burned Enemies
- Burn Affinity: 25% More Damage On Burned Enemies
- Burning Break: 3 Burn Stacks On Broken Enemy
- Double Burn: Extra Burn Stack
- Weakness Gain: +1AP On Exploring Weakness
Most fire-based skills in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will apply a status effect called Burn. Burn will damage enemies on every turn, and the more stacks they have of Burn, the more damage they will take. That’s what this build tries to take advantage of as Burn, even to enemies not weak to it or resistant to it, can take a lot of heavy damage.
All of these Lumina will help either apply more stacks of Burn or maybe even have characters do more damage to enemies infected with Burn. Not every character can benefit from a Burn-based build in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but among the party, Maelle stands out as most of her attacks are fire-base,d and she has a lot of strong weapons with fire elementals.

Death Build
Give Enemies Hell When You Die
- Burning Death: Apply Burn To Enemy Party In Death
- Energising Revive: +3 AP To Allies When Revived
- Healing Death: Party Recovers Full Health In Death
- Powerful Shell: Get Powerful When Gaining Shell
- Protecting Death: Party Gets Shell In Death
- Revive Paradox: Play Immediately After Revival
- Second Chance: Revive Once Per Battle
- Shielding Death: Party Gets 3 Shields In Death
Even in death, players can get a one-up on enemies, which could help win the battle overall. To continue the Burn status effect talk for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Burning Death will infect the enemy party with stacks of Burn. Healing Death is great because it will give the non-fallen party members full HP. For the party, Protecting Death will give them Shell if someone falls and Shielding Death will give them Shields.

7 Best Support Skills In Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Ranked
A good party in an RPG is a supported party, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has some good skills to learn to maximize the group’s effectiveness.
Powerful Shell is not death or revive-related, but when a character gets Shell, they will also gain Powerful to raise attack power. Best of all is Second Chanc,e which will revive a character once per battle and with Energising Revive stacked on, the party can gain AP. Revive Paradox will enhance Second Chance too because that revived character can act right away.

General Build
Get The Most From Your Party
- Attack Lifestyle: Base Attack Recovers 15% HP
- Augmented Attack: Base Attack Does 50% More Damage

- Cheater: Act Twice
- Combo Attack: Base Attack Hits Twice

- Energising Turn: +1 AP On Turn Start
- Recovery: Recover 10% HP On Turn Start
- Second Chance: Revive Once Per Battle
- Warming Up: Gain 5% More Damage On Every Turn (Maxed At 5)
This is a general allotment of Lumina that can make any party good to go for general battles or boss battles in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Attack Lifestyle, Augmented Attack, and Combo Attack will make normal attacks better. Augmented Counter 1 will do more damage with Parries, and other versions can stack with it.
Energising Attack 1 and Energising Turn will help the party get more AP from their turns, and Warming Up will increase attack power on turn starts for a few rounds. Attack Lifestyle and Recovery are both good for healing HP, along with the aforementioned Second Chance. Cheater is the best Lumina among the pack, though, because characters can act twice in a row and still get full turn benefits.
2
Healing/Tint Build
Keep The Party Alive
- Attack Lifestyle: Base Attack Recovers 15% HP
- Charging Tint: Gradient Attack Charges 5% On Using Item
- Cleansing Tint: Healing Tints Remove Status Effects Too

For those worried about healing overall in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, there are a few Lumina to build around beyond Attack Lifestyle, Recovery, and Second Chance. For example, Empowering Tint and Healing Tint Energy can help recover AP when using items. Empowering Tint and Protecting Tint will give characters stat boosts like Powerful and Shell when using items.

7 Best Heal Skills In Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Ranked
From pure healing spells to ones with offensive traits, these skills will help the party greatly in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Healing Share and Shared Care can make the party essentially get healed whenever someone else gets healed. Cleansing Tint will remove a status effect by using items, which is a nice benefit. Finally, Charging Tint will make items recover the Gradient Attack meter, and Gradient Attacks in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are like Limit Breaks in Final Fantasy games. The more players can use them, the better.

Risky Build
Die Or Win Quickly
- Confident: Take 50% Less Damage But Can’t Be Healed
- Glass Canon: Give 25% More Damage, Take 25% More Damage
- Immaculate: 30% More Damage Until Hit
- Inverted Affinity: Inverted For 3 Turns, 50% More Damage During This State
- Roulette: 50% Chance To Deal Half Or 200% Damage
This final combination of Luminas is for players who like to take risks in their RPGs. Also, if they have mastered the art of using Dodge or Parry in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Confident will make a character take less damage, but they can’t be healed, not counting revivals. Glass Canon can make that Lumina riskier by decreasing defense in exchange for attack power, which is how glass canon archetypes typically work in games.
Immaculate will increase damage too, but only if players can avoid being hit. Inverted is a bad status effect as healing energy will damage the party, but Inverted Affinity combined with Confident won’t make healing matter anyway. Finally, Roulette is a weird one as players can have a chance at attacks either doing half or extreme amounts of damage. Overall, while players can take more damage, they can dish it out too, which should make battles end quicker.
