“Being A Criminal Does Not Necessarily Make You A Bad Person.”
Season 3, Episode 3
- Arc: First Year; Mixed Training Camp
There are several reasons a crime can be committed, be it for the thrill, greed, or, in some cases, to make someone happy, and while the action is deemed lawfully wrong, Ayanokoji does not believe it equates to said criminal being a bad person.
Morals determine if a person is good or bad, not the law. So Ayanokoji believes that a person could commit a crime and still be a good person, as it all depends on the morality of the action behind the committed crime. The context of the quote above is a prime example because despite Ichinose’s theft being publicized, her classmates still considered her to be trustworthy.

Season 1, Episode 12
As a character, Ayanokoji is nearly ruthless when it comes to achieving his goals, manipulating and using people to fit his needs, and this quote is the very embodiment of this particular trait of his. Having been raised in the survival-of-the-fittest White Room, Ayanokoji firmly believes that procedure or process does not matter, as long as victory is assured.
He even views people as tools, considering everyone to be his pawns on the chessboard, pieces to be used at his discretion. He is willing to use anyone and any method, no matter the sacrifice it takes, to come out on top, as he believes winning is all that matters, having no regard for morality.

Some people believe that with enough effort, determination, or companionship, everyone can stick together no matter what. They believe there is always a chance for redemption, no matter how far anyone might have fallen, but Ayanokoji believes this notion to be a fallacy, a delusion.

Ayanokoji finds himself involved in their agreement, when Kushida mentions she also wants him to leave the school if she fulfills her part of her deal with Horikita.
