After getting a soul core from defeating a yokai, head to any Shrine and purify it. All soul cores are stored in the Onmyo Box and can only be equipped or removed at the Shrine. If players collect a core and die before purifying it, it will be lost upon death, and you need to get it back alongside the Amrita.

There is a Yang position and a Yin position. Choosing a soul core at the Yang position allows players to summon the yokai itself for a few seconds to help in battle using a Summoning Seal. Inserting a core at the Yin position grants players an Onmyo Magic Item that can buff them or attack the enemies. Unless players have another soul core of the same yokai, they can only place each core in one position.

Each soul core offers some extra special effects, but they only activate if you have the required Magic level.

It’s possible to place more than one core in the Yin position, but you need to level up the Magic stat. It will also increase the Onmyo Magic Power.

Upon choosing the desired yokai soul core, make sure to equip the Summoning Seal and the Onmyo Magic Items to the shortcut wheel and use them in battle.

Sometimes, players can only use the soul core in the Yin position. That’s because to unlock the Sumoning Seal and be able to use it, you need to defeat the Crucible Wraith version of the yokai to summon it. Although you can’t know which Wraith you’re going to face, they are marked on the map. Crucible Wraiths are a tougher version of the usual yokai that will also enhance the Onmyo Magic Item upon defeat.

How To Get Yokai Soul Cores In Nioh 3

Players will randomly get yokai soul cores after defeating the demon. You can increase your chances by choosing equipment that has Soul Core Drop Rate. As mentioned before, powerful yokai such as the Crucible Wraith or demons in the Dark Realm will always drop a soul core.

Locating Formidable Enemies and defeating them grants various rewards, including their yokai soul core. These are powerful bosses found on the map as a golden box.

Defeating tough bosses as part of a main quest grants a high-level yokai soul core that can be used immediately in both Yang or Yin positions, like the Jakotsu-Baba one.

It’s also possible to get soul cores from the friendly yokai like Chijiko and Scampus,s and players can summon them in battles as well.
