Console users have been suffering from an issue that causes a severe frame rate drop in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster for a while now, and they are still waiting on a fix.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster shadowdrop is one of the craziest gaming events in 2025. There were rumors that it was in the works, but no one believed that it was finished, let alone ready to be released as a surprise. So, on April 22, the Remaster was released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S, allowing players to revisit Cyrodiil once more. Whether it was intentional or not, even the Remaster suffers from some mostly harmless bugs, and the fans took it very well, saying it is a genuine Oblivion/Bethesda experience. However, not all bugs are harmless, and PlayStation and Xbox users have been suffering from a severe frame rate drop for a while now.
Console Users Are Still Waiting on a Patch That Fixes the Severe Frame Rate Drop in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remaster
It was noticed by console users, both PS and Xbox, that the game suffers drops in frame rate after playing the game for a while. The issue is that the longer you play, the game’s memory starts filling up, resulting in an overload and a drop in frame rate (sometimes as much as 20 frames less). This has been covered in more detail by the folks at Digital Foundry, and they showed that even the famous PS5 Pro is not safe from this, meaning that the error is on the part of the game itself; it is not your console’s fault. Some folks recommend restarting your platform every 15 minutes, since that will clear up the memory. While useful, it is far from a sustainable solution.
The players have been waiting for a patch ever since. But, according to one Redditor: “Speaking of Digital Foundry, they said they contacted Bethesda about the performance issues and Bethesda said they have found the source of the problem and are testing a solution for it. That was [weeks] ago now though, so hopefully it won’t be much longer until we get something.”
It’s been a while now, and still no news from Bethesa or Virtous. This is not a small issue, so hopefully their testing for a solution is showing results.
