Cronos The New Dawn Is Inspired By the Dark Souls Series in Terms of Difficulty

Bloober Team’s next project is the talk of the town, and we finally had a new dev diaries video where they revealed that Cronos: The New Dawn is inspired by the Dark Souls series, when it comes to difficulty.

Bloober Team became insanely popular and respected for their work on the Silent Hill 2 Remake, proving that they really do understand horror as a genre and are well-versed in delivering to your gaming screens. Just after the release of SH2 Remake, they announced that they are already working on another horror game, an original IP this time. The initial trailer excited both gamers and horror fans alike, and Bloober has been offering only bits and pieces of info from then on. But now, an official dev live has been released, revealing some interesting facts.

Bloober Reveals What Inspired Them When Making Cronos The New Dawn

On March 20, Bloober Team released a Deep Dive video, where they talk about Cronos: The New Dawn in more detail, what inspired them, a little bit about the world, monsters, and more.

On the topic of inspiration, when you look at the trailer and the monsters, it is no wonder that the devs were heavily influenced by the body horror genre, especially by John Carpenter’s movie The Thing, from 1982. Next, they are also inspired by Dark, the popular Netflix TV series from 2017 (the show is about time travel, Cronos is about time travel, makes sense), and of course, Dead Space.

But, concerning difficulty, the devs said: “…also Dark Souls series! We also love to push our games into a little bit more challenging direction.” While we doubt that the game will be as infuriating as Souls-like games, it’s more of an atmospheric survival horror than an action game with set bosses. But, on the topic of bosses, the devs did say they don’t want to spoil everything this early, so most likely a middle ground will be found. Challenging, but not in a way to make you restart the game dozens of times.
