Demon Slayer Creator’s Estimated Earnings From Manga Sales Revealed

Demon Slayer author Koyoharu Gotouge has made a fortune from their hit manga, which has sold over 220 million copies worldwide. With the new anime film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc film breaking records — 9.1 million viewers in just ten days in Japan and 22 billion yen ($150.4 million) in 25 days — estimates suggest just how much Gotouge has earned so far.

As reported by IGN Brazil, Japanese site Real Sound estimated that Gotouge may have earned roughly 10 billion yen (about $64 million) from physical and digital manga sales alone. Manga creators typically earn about 10% in royalties, a figure mentioned during Kadokawa’s World Wordless Manga Contest panel.

That number doesn’t include other revenue streams like Demon Slayer video games, merchandise, stage plays, anime adaptations, or music releases, all of which would push the total much higher.

Gotouge’s identity is a mystery. They have never revealed their appearance or gender, using a crocodile illustration as their public persona. They don’t have a social media account, and their comments only appear on the manga’s pages as author’s comments or via Demon Slayer/Weekly Shonen Jump’s social media accounts. Demon Slayer was their first serialised work.

While the manga has ended, more Demon Slayer is on the way. The final arc is being adapted as a film trilogy, with the first part releasing in India on September 12.
