Demon Slayer Has Officially Been Beaten By Its Biggest Rival Anime

When it comes to modern anime, two series are currently dominating the world, and they’re Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer. At the moment, Jujutsu Kaisen has two anime seasons, with one more coming soon in January 2026. Meanwhile, Demon Slayer has received 4 anime seasons, and two big movies, with more upcoming in the next few years.

Demon Slayer Gets A New Infinity Castle Part 2 Update

Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Part 2 gets a new update as excitement for the next movie increases.

At the moment, it definitely seems like Demon Slayer is the one ahead, especially when it comes to movies. This, however, could come to change very fast. At the US box office, Jujutsu Kaisen’s new recap movie, Jujutsu Kaisen: Executioner, has surpassed Demon Slayer’s own recap movie from a few years ago, Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village. This could be a huge indicator for what’s to come, and what could happen if Jujutsu Kaisen finally gets a canon movie covering the upcoming manga events and the battle of Gojo vs Sukuna. If this movie really happens, it could turn out to be an actual threat to Demon Slayer.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Executioner is the franchise’s latest movie. While it’s not an original movie, as it recaps and condenses the events of the Shibuya arc from Season 2 of JJK for the most part, it also includes content from two episodes from the upcoming JJK Season 3 at the end.

As such, fans were very excited for this JJK movie, and in the US, it amassed 10.2M during the three-day opening weekend. This is definitely no small number for a recap movie, and it actually surpasses the Demon Slayer recap movie, Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village from 2023.

Jujutsu Kaisen Sorcerers That Can Replace Gojo Yuji and Yuta

8 Jujutsu Kaisen Characters Who Can Replace Gojo Satoru As The Strongest

Gojo Satoru’s death was unfortunate, but these sorcerers have the potential to replace him as the strongest in JJK.

In comparison, Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village got 10.1 million for its debut. Of course, one could justify this by saying that Jujutsu Kaisen: Executioner includes brand-new content that will attract more fans to theaters, while Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village had none.

It can also be said that Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village is one of the series’s less popular arcs. Meanwhile, JJK fans’ are obsessed with Shibuya and the Culling Game. Either way, it’s still a win for Jujutsu Kaisen, and a sign of its growing popularity.

  • A Gojo Vs Sukuna Movie Could Happen
  • JJK’s Popularity Could Beat Demon Slayer

At the moment, Demon Slayer has little to no existing competition when it comes to anime movies. In Japan, the two highest-grossing movies of all time are both Demon Slayer movies, with Mugen Train at number 2, and Infinity Castle at number 1.

That said, Jujutsu Kaisen could rise up to the challenge. Jujutsu Kaisen 0, a prequel movie, did incredibly well at the Box Office. A canon movie following the current story would do even better.

If there’s one thing fans are praying to see happen, it’s a movie covering the Gojo vs Sukuna battle from the manga. The only movie that stands a chance of surpassing Infinity Castle is a Gojo Vs Sukuna movie, given that it is the greatest anime fight of the last 8 years or so.

Based on current information, it seems that this movie could quite easily happen. Jujustu Kaisen Season 3 will likely end with Gojo being unsealed and ready to take on Sukuna. It’s the perfect setup for the movie, and fans absolutely cannot wait for what’s to come next.
