There has been an increase in Steam users playing Devil May Cry games in the wake of the Netflix animated series. Captain Laserhawk and Castlevania showrunner Adi Shankar and X-Men 97 studio animation house Studio Mir recently released their take on the Devil May Cry franchise, which stars a human/demon hybrid named Dante who uses his supernatural powers to defend the mortal realm from demonic threats. The show follows a separate storyline from the series of hack-and-slash games it is based on, with Dante fighting to prevent a terrorist named “The White Rabbit” from unleashing a demon army on Earth.
So far, the Devil May Cry animated series has earned positive reviews, consistently topping Netflix’s viewership charts since its premiere on April 3. Late last week, Netflix announced that Devil May Cry is getting a second season, with Dante voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch (who incidentally voices fellow demon hunter Nero in the Devil May Cry games) celebrating the good news on social media.

Rumor: Devil May Cry 3 Remake Could Be in the Works
A remake of 2005’s Devil May Cry 3 might be in the works at Capcom, according to comments made by one of the game’s biggest voice actors.
It seems the success of the Devil May Cry show is spreading over into the video game series that spawned it, with viewers checking the games out for themselves after seeing Dante’s animated exploits. According to the Steam database (as reported by ComicBook), the player counts for all Devil May Cry games on Steam have risen significantly since April 3, with the most recent entry getting the most by far. 2019’s Devil May Cry 5 has enjoyed a 24-hour player peak of 14,064, with the highest number reached since the Netflix show’s premiere being 14,976.
Devil May Cry Show Leads To Increased Player Counts
In second place is Devil May Cry: HD Collection, an updated re-release of the first three entries in the Devil May Cry series. It currently has a 24-hour peak of 7,622 players, an all-time high for the collection according to Steam’s database. Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition and the controversial 2013 re-imagining DmC: Devil May Cry currently sit at 1,419 and 742 users respectively.
The Devil May Cry animated series has left some fans divided, but there is no denying that it has sparked an increased interest in the games since it was released. Recent discounts on the Devil May Cry games might have also played a factor in the sudden spike in player counts, and all entries are easily available on Steam and other platforms. Perhaps the success of the show and increased popularity of the games might lead Capcom to green-light another Devil May Cry game in the future, but for now fans are diving deep into the stylish universe of Dante and his gang of demon hunters.
