Diablo 4 launches Surprise Event

Diablo 4 quietly launched a surprise event following the release of its most recent patch, but many players have overlooked it due to ongoing issues. Diablo 4 has had a bumpy ride since its launch in June 2023, receiving some strong reviews while still falling short of the nostalgic heights of its predecessors. Still, Diablo 4 has held strong, with a new expansion, Vessel of Hatred, released in October 2024 and a consistent string of new seasonal content released every few months.

Even though some core fans may have been disappointed with the state of Diablo 4 at launch, it hasn’t stopped the latest entry in the franchise from making over $1 billion in revenue to date. With such incredible financial success under its belt, Blizzard has continued to support the game with a steady stream of new content. The latest season, named Sins of the Horadrim, adds new spells and jewels for players to tinker with, all of which are detailed in the July 15 patch notes for Diablo 4.

Diablo 4 Season 9 May Be the Last of Its Kind

Diablo 4 Season 9 stands out for one unexpected reason, but this could also be the last time the community sees a season like this.

Along with the latest seasonal update, Blizzard also added a surprise event to the game called Gift of the Tree. This event sees players gain extra rewards when turning in their Grim Favor to the Tree of Whispers. The Gift of the Tree event has so far gone largely unnoticed due to the plethora of issues introduced with the Season 9 patch. It quickly became apparent to players that the Sins of the Horadrim update was not quite ready for the public, with issues escalating to the point where Diablo 4 had to roll back the July 15 update for PC players.

Issues Overshadow Diablo 4’s Gift of the Tree Event

Most complaints regarding the performance of the latest update are from console players, who are experiencing issues with loading screens, and some are even encountering complete game freezes. Unfortunately for console players, rolling back patches is not as simple as it is for PC users, leaving those on console stuck with poor performance until a new patch is added to the game. Even with all the issues plaguing season 9, it still hasn’t stopped players from discovering the latest exploits and shortcuts, including the best gold farming route in Diablo 4.

It’s unfortunate to see that Diablo 4 is still struggling to gain stability. Players have been voicing their concerns on the official Diablo 4 forums, as well as on Reddit and other social media sites, in the hopes that Diablo 4 can fulfill the promise of the games that preceded it and live up to the lofty heights of the franchise’s best games. Luckily for fans of the game, Diablo 4 content creators had a meeting with Blizzard and were told that long-awaited changes are coming to the game shortly. Hopefully, with the game’s financial success and the franchise’s persistent adoration, Blizzard will stick with Diablo 4 and transform it into an ARPG classic.
