Disney Dreamlight Valley Reveals Community Companion Winner

Disney Dreamlight Valley has revealed the final design of the winning creature in its Community Companion contest, which has been going on throughout the summer. There’s still no official word on when the contest champion will make its debut in Disney Dreamlight Valley, so players may want to keep their eyes peeled for game updates.

In addition to filling roles as adorable pets that players can collect, Companions in the fanciful life simulation adventure game provide many of the same benefits as regular Villagers. They can gain friendship levels with the player, with increasing levels resulting in expanded inventory slots, the collection of bonus resources, and at the peak of friendship, clothing and furniture rewards. There are currently around 150 different animal Companions in Disney Dreamlight Valley, including 26 that players have been able to acquire from past special events, and even a few special inorganic additions, like the footstool from Beauty and the Beast and the Star Wars universe’s R2-D2.

Now, a new addition to the Companion ranks has been revealed following the Disney Dreamlight Valley Community Companion voting that started in early June. Five initial rounds of voting determined that the new Companion would be a cottagecore dragon with a floral aesthetic, and a more recent poll, which wrapped up on August 11, asked players to select between three designs that the development team had cooked up based on those parameters. Officially announced on August 15, the grand winner, with 66 percent of votes claimed, is a pink, Eastern-style dragon with a cherry blossom motif, which beat out the second-place sunflower dragon and the third-place fall leaf-themed dragon. Tiny cherry blossoms adorn its branch-like brown horns, while its wings resume larger blooms, and its scales are reminiscent of flower petals.

Now that the game’s first Community Companion has been decided, many players wonder how will be able to get their hands on it. Companions are often only available through Disney Dreamlight Valley‘s Premium Shop, but there are other ways of acquiring them, such as completing special quests or, in the case of the Ancient Robot, crafting them.

Since this is the first Companion to have been created through a collaborative voting effort with the game’s player community, there is also the possibility that the developers could reward players by giving this dragon a special set of skills. While most Companions share similar functional traits, The Little Mermaid‘s Max the sheepdog broke this trend when he was introduced in June, with the ability to dig up resources from the ground, special interactions with Ariel and Eric, and some unique poses in the game’s photo mode.
