It’s been quite a week for Helldivers! The Illuminate attacked Super Earth just as the Heart of Democracy update dropped. Even though some leaks indicated that Super Earth might fall, brave Helldivers managed to defend it. The Major Order was completed, and the players finally had a minute to relax and catch their breath. Of course, that gave the community a chance to dissect everything that had happened. The players realized that staying alive in Helldivers 2 doesn’t necessarily pay off.
Are Helldivers Making a Mistake When They Try a No-Death Dive?
Fighting on Super Earth was no joke. Enemies were everywhere, often in large groups. Just when you finish one group, another one appears… and then another one… and another one. Praise Liberty for SEAF troops assisting the Helldivers.
Interestingly enough, some players noticed something peculiar. The longer they stayed alive, the more enemies seemed to follow them around. As you know, over the past several months, many Helldivers maxed out and needed to come up with new ways to challenge themselves. One of the most popular challenges was certainly the no-death challenge, where players basically tried to stay alive for the entire mission. This approach stuck, and many Helldivers adopted it as the approach to the game. However, it might come with some… perks.
One player, Beatnick120, noted: “They REALLY hate 0 death divers. The Illuminate forces seem to get way more selectively aggressive based on who’s survived the longest. A whole squad going 0 deaths absolutely ENRAGES them, they totally flood the extract and try to catch you with interlopers and leviathans at the exact second you let your guard down. Even the overseers try to crowd and beat you into submission”.

Staying Alive Could Trigger a Hidden Mechanic in Helldivers 2
Have you ever noticed this? Truth be told, we’ve had some no-death runs, but after a while, adrenaline takes over, and we can’t say for certain if the number of enemies actually increased. However, some Helldivers have confirmed this happened to them as well.
One player, ProgrammerDear5214, stated: “I think the reason for this might be because when a teammate dies, most of the enemies will go after the next nearest target. If you never die, then eventually you’ve got to clean up everybody else’s mess that they couldn’t”.
Another player, TheTwinFangs, confirmed: “Yeah, there’s adaptive difficulty based on the player with the least deaths. Usually that’s no big deal, but I gotta admit being sniped and one-shotted by a Leviathan that barely spawned gets old real quick”.
Still, the developers haven’t confirmed this theory, and plenty of Helldivers claimed this was all just a coincidence. One player mocked: “Is there any data to back this up? Cuz it sounds like copium on not being able to last the whole game without dying. Prolly just correlating coincidences”.
What do you think? Based on everything we’ve seen, we’d say there is definitely a strong possibility that this is an actual mechanic in Helldivers 2. So, we’re eager to test it out! Would you like to join us? For Liberty and Super Earth.
