2025 is almost over, and new releases are starting to slow down, allowing everyone to take a deep breath and play through a dozen games that they missed. Xbox Game Pass is the ideal platform to complement your library, allowing you to try projects that would otherwise never have tempted you to buy outright. However, due to the sheer volume of content on Microsoft’s platform, actually picking your next game can be exhausting. Personally, I have spent way too much time browsing through PC Game Pass’s hundreds of titles, only to give up and replay Gears of War for the billionth time. Naturally, I then have to play through all the sequels, which takes up the rest of the month.

In an attempt to make the process of picking a Game Pass game a touch easier, let’s go over three recommendations that would be perfect to power through during the upcoming weekend. Everyone has their own preferences, so I am going to try and cover a wide net, incorporating a new arrival, an underrated gem, and one of 2025’s best games that most people have likely played (but should be top-priority for any outliers).

Marvel Cosmic Invasion

December 2025’s New Big Game Pass Game, And It Is Perfect For Co-Op

If you are into beat-’em-ups, you should be intimately familiar with Tribute Games’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, which is one of the genre’s crowning modern achievements. The developer is back at it with a game that feels very much like a spiritual successor to that 2022 title, despite revolving around a different IP. Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a homerun, at least for anyone who loves beating enemies to a pulp stylistically and efficiently. Like Shredder’s Revenge, the new game is fairly accessible and easy for the genre, all the while having as much depth as most of its contemporaries.

The Best Games On Xbox Game Pass

Xbox Game Pass is unquestionably worth the subscription fee, but which of the available games are the best use of your hard drive space?

While its movesets are not huge when compared to action games from other genres, Marvel Cosmic Invasion leans into combos and variety more than the traditional beat-’em-up formula, and both of these aspects are heightened by a vast roster of playable characters. These types of games earn their longevity through repeat playthroughs, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion‘s characters play so differently that you will want to try most of them out, rather than just sticking to Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Captain America. You have to unlock a few characters, but most of the heroes are available immediately, so you and your friends have plenty of options.

Solo play is great fun, but Marvel Cosmic Invasion is better in 4-player coop. You can even pull off tag team moves.

Evil West

An Underrated Third-Person Shooter & Hack And Slash Hybrid With A Cool Setting

OK, Evil West is kind of an odd case. It was on Xbox Game Pass for quite a while, but it left the service in the first half of 2025. In October of the same year, Flying Wild Hog’s project was added back to the platform, making it hardly the most exciting recent arrival. The thing is, Evil West epitomizes Game Pass’s value, as it is exactly the type of title that is tailor-made for a subscription service. In 2022, the game got decent but not glowing reviews, which could have put off people who already had a massive backlog that they will never clear. If you have yet to buy Evil West during one of its many deep discounts, then you will likely never buy it. However, you might download it on Game Pass, and that is exactly what you should do this coming weekend.

Although the campaign can get repetitive due to lasting more than 10 hours, Evil West‘s core combat is an absolute delight, as it blends explosive gunplay with satisfying melee attacks. The game walks the line between being a third-person shooter and a hack-and-slash romp well, all the while taking some inspiration from 2018’s God of War. Most levels consist of combat arenas linked by brief passages, a pattern that can get samey but simultaneously ensures that missions highlight the game’s strongest asset.

Also, weird western games are hard to come by, and Evil West really nails that aesthetic and concept.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

A Top Contender For 2025’s Game Of The Year (And Best Game Pass Game)

Yeah, this is a very unnecessary recommendation. Except for maybe Silksong, which is also on Game Pass, no other 2025 game captured the cultural zeitgeist as thoroughly as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Sandfall’s masterpiece launched directly on Microsoft’s platform, a decision that helped boost its initial success and galvanize its momentum. At this point, I cannot imagine that many subscribers have yet to give this one a try, but not everyone is automatically drawn to turn-based RPGs. As popular and historically significant as that genre is, it is still niche.

The 10 Best RPGs of 2025

With many impressive games under the RPG banner in 2025, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, The Outer Worlds 2, and more offer outstanding experiences.

That said, even if you do not enjoy role-playing games, you should still try Clair Obscur. After all, we are talking about a literal GOTY candidate, and an argument could be made that it is the frontrunner to win the whole thing. The Game Awards also nominated Clair Obscur in the following categories: Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Performance (Ben Starr and Charlie Cox), Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, Best RPG, and Player’s Voice. With 12 in total, Clair Obscur broke the record for the most nominations ever.

So, yeah, the game is pretty good. If you have yet to play it, give it a go this weekend.
