The new official trailer for Cronos: The New Dawn was released only recently. While it did not reveal the release date, as we were all hoping for, it did show some very interesting details. For example, it gave us a sneak peek into a unique mechanic that Cronos: The New Dawn will feature, which enables enemies to merge together, with horrific results.
Bloober’s post-apocalyptic survival horror is the talk of the town, especially after the new trailer dropped. This game blends all the right genres to create a unique horror experience, and the devs were inspired by various popular horror titles. One of the massive influences is the Dead Space games. We all know about the Necromorphs and how you can and should dismember them by shooting off their limbs, which was a pretty unique mechanic at the time. Inspired by that, Bloober has a peculiar mechanic of their own for Cronos.
A Creepy Mechanic Allows Downed Emeies to Merge in Cronos: The New Dawn
Revealed in the April 16 trailer, with the cryptic words “Don’t Let Them Merge”, Merging is a peculiar in-game mechanic in Cronos: The New Dawn. As you can imagine, it allows for “new” enemies to merge with those that you have already slain, with horrific effects, turning them into stronger and even more mutated monstrosities. The only way to deal with it is to “remove the evidence”, ie, kill it with fire!
And Bloober Team even warned players about it. “Imagine this — a distorted mix of sci-fi, time travel, retro-futuristic dread and body horror — all set against the gritty backdrop of ’80s Poland. What a ride, right? And whatever you do… don’t let them merge,” said Jacek Zięba, the co-director and producer.

“How do you fight them? Fire! Burn the fallen before they merge with living creatures. The Merge changes the game, adding a whole new layer of strategy to combat. Push your survival instincts to the max,” added Wojciech Piejko, the co-director and designer.
Merging sounds pretty awesome and forces you to think a little bit more before engaging enemies in Cronos. The fans are already excited, with users commenting, “Loving the merge system. Making the combat more asymmetrical is a huge plus.” The fact that the release window hasn’t even been released yet is borderline torture, would you agree?
