One of Arc System Works’ longest-running fighting games is set to receive some major updates soon, with Dragon Ball FighterZ getting not only a balance update but a new character. The fighting game has been a darling among fans of both Dragon Ball Z and Arc System Works since it first released in early 2018. Dragon Ball FighterZ has continued to receive infrequent updates, releasing a new version of Android 21 in 2022 and launching a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version last year. Now, even more new content is coming to FighterZ.
While Dragon Ball FighterZ has long since passed the peak of its popularity, the game has continued to be a popular choice for many fans. FighterZ would launch three different “FighterZ Passes” adding a variety of different characters to the game, including popular characters like Master Roshi and Broly alongside new forms like Goku (Ultra Instinct). Dragon Ball FighterZ also continues to be a mainstay at major tournaments, featured at nearly every EVO tournament since its release. A new update reveals that FighterZ is still kicking with another new character on the way.
Dragon Ball FighterZ Adding New Fighter Next Year
Arc System Works officially revealed some new content coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ during EVO France 2025, teasing multiple updates in the works. The developer revealed that a brand-new balance update will be launching for FighterZ, though specifics about the changes were not revealed. Arc System Works also surprised fans with the announcement that a new character will be coming to FighterZ next year, adding the Dragon Ball Daima version of Super Saiyan 4 Goku. SS4 Goku (Daima) is expected to release sometime during the Spring of 2026.
Super Saiyan 4 Goku’s new version will mark the end of a long gap between new characters for Dragon Ball FighterZ. The proposed Spring launch date for the new version of Goku comes more than four years after the release of Android 21 (Lab Coat), who originally debuted in February 2022. His release is also set to mark the first new character added to FighterZ after the death of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, following his tragic passing in early 2024. Arc System Works has not confirmed whether SS4 Goku (Daima) will be part of a larger revival for FighterZ.
The newest character coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ comes as Arc System Works has kept itself busy with multiple new projects. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising has continued to add new characters to the game, with multiple new roster members coming in the second half of its “Season 2” series of DLC. The developer is also actively working on its next major project, teaming up with Marvel to develop Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls as a crossover fighting game based on the comic book juggernaut. The new Dragon Ball FighterZ DLC serves as a testament to the game’s longevity and popularity with fans.
