Fans Devastated As PlayStation Has No Plans to Create Additional Themes in the Future

It looks like we can’t have nice things. Everybody loves Themes, and it is no surprise that the fans are devastated since Sony PlayStation revealed that they have no plans to create additional themes in the future.

Sony PlayStation had their 30th anniversary back in December 2024. As part of the celebration, they released a new feature for PS5, which allowed you to change parts of the menu design based on your favorite generation of PlayStation. It proved to be so popular that the players asked for it to be a permanent feature. As everyone said, the Themes are already there, no extra work is required. But, it looks like Sony does not agree with that.

No Additional PlayStation Themes in The Future

On January 30, 2025, Sony PlayStation’s X page thanked everyone for the “fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow.”

The fans pleaded that the Themes remain a permanent feature, and Sony had this to say: “While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we’re excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.”

Unsurprisingly, the fans are devastated by this news. They only have words of critique, like  JayCee_Squared saying: “Huge L, themes are a big selling point on ps4 and ps3 and psp. And it’s a shame to let them go now”, avoid_42 adding: “Why don’t you just do things we actually want you to do. Bring back dynamic themes. Bring back PlayStation Home. Do more with PSVR2”.

But, the user named SenpaiRetro on X gave the most detailed reply: “Biggest L on your part. PS3 and PS4, had soooo much more charm with the themes. Why would you take it away (Playstation boot up themes) and then give it back to us again on a later date. Just let us have it. This generation has been the most lackluster and forgettable compared to the previous generations.”

It is quite understandable why the fans are reacting like this, and no one is really sure why Sony chose to pull the Themes back and not give the players what they want. A huge L on their part, no doubt about it.
