Using a controller to play FC 26 on a PC is turning into a nightmare for many as EA Sports continues to work on a fix.
While you can play with a keyboard and mouse on PC, using a controller is better. It allows you to attack and defend better, but for that, the controller needs to work as intended. EA Sports has acknowledged that there are problems currently when trying to use a controller, and here are some fixes that you can try.
How to fix the controller not working bug in FC 26
It’s important to note that these methods are based on a trial-and-error approach. I also encountered problems when playing with my Dualsense controller on my PC, and the methods listed here helped to solve the issues. However, the problems can return until EA Sports releases a permanent fix.
- Use the Steam Big Picture mode: Using Steam’s Big Picture mode is known to fix issues related to using a controller. Of course, this method is only applicable if you have bought the game on Steam, but it’s still worth trying.
- Disable Steam Input: This trick worked for me. Go to the game’s properties from Steam and then to controller settings. You’ll see the option to turn off Steam Input in this section.
- Check before a game: Currently, FC 26 can change your default input method to keyboard and mouse (yes, even if you have a controller plugged in). You’ll have to pause the game and change the input back to controller before resuming the game.
There are two extra tricks to try out. One is to unplug your controller and then plug it again (you’ll need to do this quickly if you’re in a game, or else you’ll be handed a defeat automatically). Alternatively, you can close your Steam and then remove the controller. Connect it again before launching Steam and continuing with FC 26.
Hopefully, one of the methods listed here will help you solve the problems you could be facing when trying to use a controller on the PC. If not, the only solution will be to wait until EA Sports releases a permanent fix.
