Final Fantasy MTG Commander deck gets major price drop on Amazon

One of the preconstructed Commander decks released earlier this year as part of Magic: The Gathering’s Final Fantasy crossover has just hit an all-time low price on Amazon.

The Final Fantasy 6-themed deck starring Terra is currently listed for 53% off at a price of $32.70 compared to MSRP of $69.99. While that’s about the current market price for the deck on a number of sellers, it’s definitely the cheapest price we’ve ever seen from a major retailer. While the other three Final Fantasy-themed Commander decks are also currently discounted on Amazon, none of them are this cheap.

“Fill your graveyard and revive your fallen heroes as you fight alongside Terra, Herald of Hope to restore balance to the world,” reads the flavor text for the deck. Every precon Commander deck included one foil Commander, one foil alternate commander, and 98 non-foil cards, along with a deck box, reference card, and one collector booster sample pack. Like some of the others from the Final Fantasy set, this deck also includes 10 double-sided tokens.

Revival Trance is a red-white-black (Mardu) deck built around getting small creatures back from the graveyard every turn — and snowballing those death-and-return triggers into big board states.

Terra, Herald of Hope, is your default commander who sets the entire game plan into motion: At the beginning of combat, you mill two cards and she gains flying. Then, whenever Terra deals combat damage, you may pay two colorless mana to return a creature card with power 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped. Because she’s got flying, chances are high that she’ll hit every round.

She essentially turns every combat step into a chance to stock up your battlefield. By default, this pre-con is packed with efficient, low-power creatures from FF6 — but the deck gets even better when you lean into that theme.

The alternate commander is Celes, Rune Knight, and she complements Terra’s abilities nicely. Whenever one or more creatures enter your battlefield from a graveyard, Celes puts a +1/+1 counter on every creature you control. With Terra bringing something back almost every turn, your team scales fast if you can get both of them on the board.

While most of the creatures in this deck do have 3 power or less, there are plenty of exceptions worth cutting, namely cards like Sabin, Master Monk or Kefka, Dancing Mad. On the flip side, that gives you room to slot in some of the colored crystals into this deck, along with red, white, and/or black creatures that fit with Terra’s abilities better. (Ironically, the other version of this character, Terra, Magical Adept, boasts 4 power and doesn’t really fit the bill in this deck.)

Vincent Valentine; Squall, SeeD Mercenary; Rosa, Resolute White Mage; Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER; and Aerith Gainsborough all make for great additions, and that’s just if you’re leaning heavily into Final Fantasy flavor. With Squall, he’ll give Terra double strike every time she attacks alone. And with Sephiroth, you can sacrifice one of your creatures (filling up your graveyard for Terra to pull from) to then draw a card and cause your opponents to lose 1 life while you gain 1 life. If Aerith is on the board when this happens, she’ll pick up a +1/+1 counter. Then, if she dies, perhaps by being fittingly sacrificed by Sephiroth, all of your legendaries get copies of all her counters. And right after that, Terra can revive her!

While the Final Fantasy 10 Counter Blitz and Final Fantasy 7 Limit Break Commander decks are widely considered the better precons in this set, at this price, it’s hard to pass up on Revival Trance, especially for any diehard FF6 fans out there who want to play some Magic. But you better hurry up, because this particular deal is already more than half claimed.
