Fortnite server outage (March 29): When will the servers be back?

The servers of popular battle royale Fortnite went down unexpectedly in the early hours of March 29, as players all over the world have been caught by surprise.

As of writing, the servers have been out for over three hours, and the problem has been officially acknowledged. However, we don’t have an exact time when the servers are going to be back since this isn’t routine maintenance. The only idea we can make is based on previous instances when maintenance was extended beyond the expected period.

Why did the Fortnite servers go down on March 29?

The exact reason for the servers not working as intended remains unknown, as Epic hasn’t made it public. The only official message we have for now is about the servers not working as intended, and it has affected global matchmaking.

The last update came about an hour ago as of writing, as Epic said that they are continuing to work on the problem. The OCE Div Cup final, as a result of the server outage, will be postponed to a later date (the exact date is yet to be announced).

There was an incident earlier this year in February, when the server maintenance got extended. Back then, it took a few extra hours for the servers to be back. This time around, we have no clear idea, but I would predict a timeline between 3 AM PDT/6 AM EDT to begin with.
