The most anticipated anime of 2026, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, finally has a release date. The second season of the anime by studio Madhouse, adapted from the manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, will land on Crunchyroll on Jan. 16, 2026, right in time to help you get out of those post-holiday blues.

Frieren is a fantasy series that follows the eponymous protagonist, an ageless elven mage who embarks on a journey to explore the meaning of mortality and the ephemeral nature of life. Driven by the death of the original companions who accompanied her on the journey to defeat the Demon Lord, Frieren decides to explore the world again, this time embracing the fleeting nature of human existence rather than avoiding it. The first season was a smash-hit success, swiftly positioning the series at the top of many fans’ charts.

The announcement of the release date was accompanied by a new, slightly extended trailer, showcasing some of the challenges that Frieren, Fern, and Stark will face this season. While the nature of the show is deeply contemplative, Frieren does not lack action, and the trailer teases more spectacular battles like the ones seen in season 1. Madhouse is still being praised for the work they did on the first season, and from the trailers it looks like season 2 will be at least on the same level.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 will premiere on Crunchyroll on Jan. 16, 2026.
