This game is off to a great start. It’s been out for less than a month and a half, and it already snagged a nomination for a prestigious award. The devs approached this project quite seriously, fresh content is constantly added, and the devs’ balancing philosophy is quite cool. However, devoted Marvel Rivals players have noticed that one character class is favored over the other two, and would love for the devs to add some variety.
Character Classes Deserve More Variety
As you know, the three character classes in Marvel Rivals are Duelists, Vanguards, and Strategists. The Duelists love picking off other characters and they deal the most damage. The Vanguards are basically the tanks, they have large health pools and they are suited for the frontlines. Finally, the Strategists are seen as the support characters, specializing in healing and assisting.
However, some devoted players noticed that there was an obvious imbalance in the number of characters in these classes. If you’ve noticed that there are a bunch of Duelists in every single match, this might be why.
DNedry noted: “There needs to be as many Vanguard and Support characters as Duelist characters. So few supports and Vanguards. 8 each. 19 Duelists. It’s no wonder you have games with 4/5 duelists and people unwilling to switch. This needs to even out and we can maybe have a better balance. Any new heroes should be strategist and vanguard until the balance is a bit better”.

Marvel Rivals Players Explain What Puts Them Off Playing as the Strategists and the Vanguards
Sure, the variety of Strategists and Vanguards in Marvel Rivals could be better, but is it really the reason the players avoid these classes? Well, the short answer is – yes. While there are plenty of interesting choices among the Duelists, players pointed out that the other two classes deserve better rosters.
Aside from that, many players pointed out that playing as the Vanguard is extremely demanding, but it doesn’t necessarily pay out. RogueCynic2000 noted: “Vanguard harder to get value, less satisfying, and designs less interesting than Duelist. Same points for Strategist but to a much lesser extent”.
Now, we’d also suggest that the Duelists are popular due to players feeling they have less responsibility toward the team, whereas the Vanguards and the Strategists have to pay close attention to the team. However, this preference might change over time as cooperation is one of the most rewarding when playing in a team. Still, the players could use some more choices to incentivize this switch. So, hopefully, the devs will hear out the players’ plea. In the meantime, if you play solely as a Duelist, try out other classes, you might be surprised by what they have to offer.
