We can never get enough of that nostalgia, and the publishers know it. On that note, it looks like a GTA 4 Port / Remaster could come to modern consoles later this year.
Remasters seem to be pretty popular today. The Silent Hill 2 Remake really did a great service to the concept of remastering, and now we have the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or the newly released Oblivion Remaster, all of them great games in their own way. But, it looks like even more are on the way. We know that GTA 6 has been announced, but what about a remake of an older GTA title?
GTA 4 Port / Remaster Could Come to Modern Consoles Later This Year
According to Tez2, a popular dataminer specializing in Rockstar Games, a GTA 4 remaster for modern consoles is well underway. On the GTA forum, one fan asked about it, and Tez answered:
“Someone at [Rockstar] hinted at the IV port, and by now it should’ve gone up a year in development. We may end up seeing it drop later this year. And it’s one more reason, in addition to existing reasons, the LCPP mod was taken down. If they still follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days, they’ll do a [Max Payne 3] port after [GTA] IV. So that is an opportunity to do a bundle or a Definitive Edition. Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes, and a Max Payne 3 port.”
On this, ben (aka videotechuck_ on X) added: “As I said before, I do think Rockstar will drop a new remaster this year as it seems Take-Two has mandated new releases from Rockstar every year. We have seen this trend of new remasters coming out since 2021”.
He adds that this would make sense as Lucia, one of the GTA 6 protagonists, was born and raised in Liberty City, where the story in GTA 4 is happening (GTA 5 is San Andreas). This would be a perfect way to introduce younger players to the City before GTA 6 releases.
This makes sense, so we will keep our eyes open for anything new.
