It feels like we have been talking about GTA 6 for a decade, which is true for the most part. GTA 5 is a gaming phenomenon, even by Grand Theft Auto standards, no game has ever accomplished what this title managed in its long-standing tenure. The series has been incredibly popular over the last 30 years and development reached a new level with 5, which is an astonishing 11 years old. GTA 6 was confirmed last year with a trailer that nearly broke the internet. For oldies like myself, the excitement didn’t come from the endless in-game possibilities or expected incredible graphics, it was the return to Vice City, the polygon jewel in Rockstar’s crown.
Outside of the global trailer and 2025 release, there is little else known but we will run through all the latest news and leaks to help paint a more complete picture.

GTA 6 release date rumors
Rockstar Games confirmed GTA 6 is coming this year, however, they have since been deadly silent. This has led to speculative rumors about delays but this sounds mostly like panic. A Q4 release makes the most sense to us, however, it is worth pointing out that GTA 4 was released in spring. GTA 5 launched in September 2013 and more importantly, Vice City launched in October 2002. There are no real patterns to any of this but there is nothing to indicate GTA 6 is ready to go in the next few months either.
Take-Two has officially scheduled the next earnings call for February 6th, which is leading some to believe a proper announcement could be on the horizon. While we may not see any release date information in Feb, a new announcement at the first earnings call of the year would put delay worries to bed.
GTA 6 pre order and price expectations
IF, and it is a big if, GTA 6 receives another announcement in February confirming it is on track, then we would likely be seeing another trailer in the not-so-distant future. We would expect pre orders to follow the second major trailer but again, this is speculative at the moment.
Hundreds of thousands pre-ordered GTA 5 and we can see GTA 6 breaking world records with relative ease in this regard. Concerning price, the rumors have not been great over the last year or so, with some touting $80-$100 for the privilege. Current AAA game pricing could mean GTA 6 will, at the very least, be $70, still high but the franchise’s track record would hint at good value.
GTA 6 map, what do we know so far?
The Vice City setting sits in the great state of Leonida, which Rockstar has touted as the “biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet”. This is no surprise, Rockstar goes bigger each time, it is a requirement! Outside of the confirmed setting and trailer, there is little else to go on but there are generational improvements that go beyond size that we can expect. More interaction, more randomness, and more immersion will no doubt be one of the biggest aspects of the new title.

GTA 6 introduces two main protagonists: Jason and Lucia, marking a significant first for the series with Lucia being the first playable female character in modern Rockstar history. While their last names remain unknown, leaked footage suggests the duo is in a romantic relationship.
Is GTA 6 cross platform?
Yes, GTA 6 has been confirmed for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Traditionally we would see AAA titles later release on the older PS4 and Xbox One, however, the game may simply be too big, taking it beyond the capabilities of the older-gen consoles. There is no mention of GTA 6 coming to PC just yet but it will porteventually, possibly a year later like we saw with GTA 5.
