April Fools’ Day has come and gone, but the tales remain. As is tradition, many game studios celebrated in style. For example, Marvel Rivals developers gave players a twerking Venom. Well, Arrowhead, the studio behind Helldivers 2, chose a different approach and changed weapon sizes in an inconspicuous patch they issued on April Fools’ Day. Also, Arrowhead changed its name to just Head, but only for the day.
The Devs Changed Weapon Sizes for April Fools’ Day
So, the devs decided to have some fun for April Fools’ Day. The pranks they decided to pull were harmless, and quite honestly, hilarious. As you know, there has been a running joke that the devs keep changing the sizes of some weapons, but those changes are barely noticeable.
If you haven’t had a chance to play on April 1, you missed out on quite a show! Various weapons, including the Sickle, the Senator, and the Liberator, changed sizes. And, we’re talking big changes. For example, this is what the Sickle looked like when we played.
A YouTuber, Seeeyog, made a video that showcased the changes, and, truth be told, they are quite extreme. Also, the weapons reportedly kept changing sizes, as many players shared their funny experiences. One player, stuv1996, noted: “They were changing the size all through the night. I saw the Liberator at one point was like a little keychain gun”.
Funnily enough, the developers denied any and all changes. They noted: “Rumors of Super Earth weapons changing sizes are considered Automaton propaganda and should be ignored. Anyone spreading such malicious lies should be reported to the Ministry of Truth”.
Is Helldivers 2 Developed by Arrowhead or Just… Head?
The weapon sizes changing in Helldivers 2 is funny, but the best April Fools’ pranks are the ones that are completely unexpected. The devs made quite a splash and confused numerous players with an unrelated announcement.
They stated: “For years, you’ve known us as Arrowhead. It’s finally time to drop the “Arrow” because, let’s be honest, we were always aiming straight for the top. While our name has changed, our commitment to creating unforgettable games remains the same. Head to the future of gaming”.
The number of unsuspecting players who fell for this harmless joke is simply amazing. Players were congratulating the studio for rebranding, and we can’t imagine how hard those players laughed once they realized it was all a prank.
