Following the surprisingly disappointing anniversary of the game, players are more than ready for something big to happen. Naturally, they are looking for clues and indications wherever they can. So, when the developers issued an emergency hotfix on a Wednesday afternoon, many players suspected something was up. However, not many Helldivers 2 players could have guessed that a new stalker variant sneaked in with the hotfix, according to some leaks.
Leaks Offer a First Look at the Unreleased Stalker Variant
One of the most prolific Helldivers 2 leakers and data miners, IronS1ghts, reportedly found evidence of the new addition in the files. The leaker noted: “(Leak) Unknown Stalker Unit. A new Terminid unit added in the latest hotfix. There was not enough info on it for me to identify the name”.

As always, IronS1ghts provided the players with a look at what was found. Truth be told, it reminds us of Monarch butterflies. We can’t really decide if it’s the most terrifying thing ever and we now hate butterflies, or if it’s actually a bit less threatening than usual.

Helldivers 2 Players Aren’t Fans of the Leaked Stalker
Well, this didn’t come as a surprise. The leaks of this unnamed Stalker truly disturbed the Helldivers 2 community. The players’ comments ranged from “horrifying” to “what in Liberty’s name”.
Some players suggested that these might be Shadows from the first installment of the game. Penguinsrockrgr8 disagreed: “I don’t think it’s the Shadow variant of the Stalker from HD1. It’s too brightly color colored. The shadow used more muted colors rather than the vibrant ones”.
Other players instantly remembered that the expedition into the Gloom might be coming up. Could this be another “Gloomed” bug variant? Now, there are plenty of other leaked Terminid variants that look quite different from this Stalker. So, there is no way of telling how this one will fit into the storyline.
The only thing that we know for sure is that this creature won’t have a lot of fans. We can’t wait to run away screaming once we see it. But, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to scream even before that. Even though the players gave their best, the Meridian Singularity is about to crash into Angel’s Venture. So, stay vigilant, dear Helldiver. For Liberty and Super Earth.
