Here’s How to Get The Sticket Stat Stick (Shield?) for Paladins in Diablo 4

The Herald of Zakarum is Unique shield for Paladins in Diablo 4 that acts as both a defensive and offensive tool, even if the latter isn’t made quite as obvious as the former. It’s not exactly as build-defining as some other Uniques for this class, but once you understand the value it provides, the Herald of Zakarum can easily become a mainstay in a wide variety of builds. In this guide, we’ll be going over how you can farm for this shield in Diablo 4 as well as some notes on how it works and how you can build around it.

This Diablo 4 Season 11 Paladin Build Basically Turns You into Marvelโ€™s Thor

Diablo 4 and Marvel fans can cosplay as Thor in Season 11 with a powerful Paladin build that trades Mjolnir for Blessed Hammers.

You can get a Herald of Zakarum to drop from Andariel, Duriel, or the Harbinger of Hatred. These lair bosses only become available once you reach Torment 1, and while you can summon and fight them at any time, you won’t be able to claim any of the loot in their boss tables unless you have the following boss materials:

  • Andariel: 3 Pincushioned Dolls (drops from Lord Zir/Beast in Ice)
  • Duriel: 3 Mucus-Slicked Eggs (drops from Grigoire/Varshan)
  • Harbinger of Hatred: 3 Abhorrent Hearts (drops from Urivar)

Belial can also drop a Herald of Zakarum, provided he spawns after you claim the treasure hoards of any of the three bosses above, or if you beat him in his own lair and choose to get loot from the reward pools of these three bosses. You need 2 Betrayer’s Husks, which drop from Belial himself after beating him in his ambushes.

The Herald of Zakarum gives you a percentage multiplier to your Strength, Resistance, Armor, and Retribution chance. Additionally, it has the following unique stats:

  • Ignores Durability Loss
  • +Ranks to Core Skills
  • +Chance for Retribution to Deal Double Damage
  • +Armor
  • +Maximum Life

The Paladin’s Retribution mechanic in Diablo 4 causes your Thorns damage to pulse around you when you block an attack. This damage is counted as a Juggernaut Skill.

This shield doesn’t do anything fancy like Supplication or other Paladin Uniques, but it acts as a massive stat stick that massively buffs almost everything you need for combat.

Thanks to the changes introduced in Diablo 4 Season 11, Armor can now be stacked beyond 1000, and while you’ll experience diminishing returns for your actual defense value, you’ll still get value out of stacking tons of Armor thanks to some of the Paladin’s Legendary Aspects and Paragon Nodes.

The Legendary Castle Paragon Node, for example, increases your damage based on a percentage of your Armor stat, letting you tank and spank to your heart’s delight. This means that Heart of Zakarum can work well on literally every Paladin build that uses a shield.
