In a parallel world, Aeterna Lucis and Hollow Knight Silksong could have been competitors in the world of Metroidvania genre, offering an exciting duo for the fans. However, that is not happening as developers Aeternum Game Studios have decided to postpone their upcoming launch.

Team Cherry’s Silksong is set to launch worldwide on Sept. 4, which was announced during Gamescom, and it prompted Aeternum Game Studios to get out of the way.

The decision to delay Aeterna Lucis seems to be the right course of action

Earlier on Aug. 22, Aeternum Game Studios put out an official statement, saying they know their game won’t have the visibility it deserves if it went up against Silksong.

Forced to pick, most Metroidvania fans would have likely picked Hollow Knight Silksong. Being on Xbox Game Pass on day one makes it even easier for players to access.

This was not the only reason for the delay, however. Aeternum Game Studios also announced that they’ve yet to have all the necessary dev kits that would let them opt for a simultaneous release on all next-gen platforms. This reason, combined with Hollow Knight Silksong‘s September launch, prompted the developers to delay Aeterna Lucis to 2026.

Lastly, they included some positive words for Team Cherry and what Hollow Knight has done for the entire Metroidvania genre. In fact, the original Hollow Knight inspired Aeternum to create Aeterna Noctis, to which Lucis is the upcoming sequel.
