While fishing in Heartopia is usually a relaxed activity where most fish appear with minimal effort, Mussels are an exception due to their strict spawning rules. Mussels are one of those creatures that sound simple on paper but end up being surprisingly frustrating to catch. You only need Fishing Level 4 to unlock them, yet many players spend days fishing without seeing a single one. This guide covers everything you need to know about finding Mussels in Heartopia, including their specific spawning conditions.
Daily Onsen Egg Locations in Heartopia
Here’s a step-by-step guide to locating and photographing all 16 eggs in Heartopia’s Onsen Egg Promise quest.
Where to Find Mussels in Heartopia
Mussels can only be found in the Suburban Lakes. These lakes are located along the road that separates home plots from the town center. You won’t find Mussels in rivers, even if the rivers connect directly to the lakes.
Secondly, Mussels are very picky about the weather. They only appear during rain, snow or rainbow weather. Sunny days, cloudy weather, or meteor showers will not spawn mussels. Rainbows in Heartopia happen fairly often, making them the most reliable time to hunt mussels. If the weather isn’t rainy or there’s no rainbow event, save your bait and wait it out.
Mussels can spawn at any time of day, but they’re much easier to catch during or after sunset. For the best chances at finding Mussels, head to the Suburban Lakes as sunset approaches and start fishing as soon as rain or rainbow weather hits.
How to Catch Mussels in Heartopia
Catching a Mussel uses the standard fishing mechanics in Heartopia. Once the correct conditions are met, equip your fishing rod and cast your line in the waters. As you reel in, keep an eye on your fishing line. The line will change color from white to yellow to red as tension increases.
You can use items like Mermaid Attractor and Mermaid Perfume to improve your chances of catching a Mussel. Mermaid Attractor increases the number of fish appearing in the area, giving the Mussel more opportunities to spawn. On the other hand, Mermaid Perfume reduces how often you need to manage line tension, making longer fishing sessions much easier. Both items can be purchased from Vanya.
Since Mussels are relatively rare, it’s normal to catch several other fish before one finally appears, so don’t give up. It often takes 10-15 catches before you finally reel in a Mussel.
