Marathon‘s server slam is slamming through Steam charts. Its amazing art style and fun gameplay have brought in quite the crowd, and its free open beta has only just started.
Naturally, player retention is a crucial component of a game like this. Extraction shooters need to give you purpose, a reason to go out into the wild to collect whatever it is you’re looking for. They do this via quests, and Marathon has plenty of them.
Several require you to go out and look for the DCON, a drop-box where various materials are deposited to complete the contract.
Here’s where you can find and use it.
Delivering resources, salvage, and Unstable Biomass to the DCON
Several contracts in Marathon are tied to the DCON, which can be found in the northeastern parts of the Perimeter map.
So far, we’ve found several contracts that require you to go out and seek the DCON: Equitable Distribution, Deconstructed I, Nano Metrics I, and Inventory Control I. Each of these contracts asks you to find a particular item on the maps and then deliver it back to the DCON, which instantly sends it to the faction in question.
The DCON is located just above the Station location on the northern edge of Perimeter, on top of the top-left building in that compound. It can seemingly only be interacted with if you have one of the related quests with you and the items required in your inventory. It has been theorized that DCONs could become usable mid-game for delivering lower-quality items before the round ends, such as salvage and other instant-sell loot that could be cluttering your inventory.
Whatever the case, the DCON is a confusing little box and a crucial part of numerous highly rewarding Marathon contracts across most of its factions.
Some other quests have also been causing headaches, aside from the DCON itself, such as NuCaloric’s introductory contract, which our guide should help you out with.
