How good are you at angling?
RimWorld”s Odyssey expansion brings plenty of new content for the players to explore, and Fishing is undoubtedly going to be a top priority task for many (including me).
The new DLC introduces plenty of animals to the world of RimWorld, which also includes aquatic creatures. Just like your four-legged friends on land, you can catch the aquatic creatures with the help of the Fishing activity. However, you can’t just land on a planet and start the activity instantly. Let’s take a look at how to fish within the new expansion.
How to start fishing in RimWorld Odyssey?
You’ll need the new Odyssey expansion if you want to fish inside the vanilla version of RimWorld. Once done, you’ll have to create a new scenario and start a fresh save. Fishing is locked for all players, but you can unlock it pretty easily from the Research tab.

Once complete, you’ll have to take your Gravship and land on a planet (assuming you started in orbit). Next, you’ll need to go to a water body, which can be a lake, a pond, or the ocean itself (if that’s available on the planet where you’ve landed).

Fishing as an activity isn’t restricted to fish. When you observe the water bodies, you’ll find creatures like Turtles popping up their heads from the water. Incidentally, Fishing depends on the Hunting skill, and not on Plants and Animals. Usually, colonists with a high Shooting skill rating should also be good at Hunting.
Once you unlock Fishing, assign a mark to an area as a fishing spot. Your colonist will automatically go and start fishing (unless you manually restrict him from the activity). You can also fish with the help of certain animals like Penguins and Otters. If you have tamed them, they will automatically fish when they’re around a fishing zone.
Fishing is beneficial if you’re in a terrain where it’s tough to grow crops. You can generate different food items from the fish that you catch, which range from different types like Tuna, Bass, and more.
