No one said a flying ship would be easy to pilot.
Everwind, for now, is just a demo, but it’s already a delightful experience that I can see really catching on. If you’ve just picked up the game, you might be as confused as I was about why your ship won’t move.
So, without further ado, here’s how to actually fly your ship in Everwind.
How to fly a ship in Everwind
It’s actually quite simple, but it’s no wonder it stumped us at first. Ships in Everwind, unlike vehicles in most games, don’t run on magical fairy dust. You’ll actually need to power your ship to get it to move.
All you need to do is find the Energy Generators on your ship, shown in the screenshot below, and burn wood to power the engines.

Next, you’ll need to place the Cockpit in order to steer your ship. You should have received one when you found your ship, so hit I on the keyboard and search your inventory. If you don’t find one, you might need to restart. Alternatively, you can try to build one, but it might take a while to get the resources.
With the cockpit set down and the engines running, you can tap W to increase forward speed and S to decrease it. Shift lowers your vertical speed, making you sink down, while hitting the spacebar raises your vertical speed.
And just like that, you’re a seasoned… uh, captain? Maybe pilot? Whatever, you have your very own flying ship. The rest is up to you. Don’t feel too bad when you inevitably crash, though; those ships aren’t the easiest to control!
