If players want to get one of Gen 2’s favorite Pokemon: Marill, they will have to finish beating the Elite Four and obtain the National Pokedex. This elusive Aqua Mouse is located in the Sevii Islands, so finding the exact spot where it spawns can be a pain.
But worry not, here in this guide, we will lead you to the exact location where you can catch Marrill in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen.
Pokemon Center Virtual Queue Wait Times Are Absolutely Out of Control Right Now
Pokemon Center’s virtual queue is seeing wait times stretch past five hours ahead of Pokemon Day 2026 and the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
How to Get & Evolve Marill in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen
First things first: Marill is a Gen 2 Exclusive of Pokemon LeafGreen, so the only chance FireRed players have to have this Pokemon is to trade it with a player who has the LG version. With that out of the way, to catch Marill in Pokemon LeafGreen, players need to complete the Elite Four Challenge and become Kanto Champions.
After obtaining the National Pokedex (having 60 or more registered Pokemon species, and talking to Professor Oak), players need to travel to Sevii Islands, and to be more precise, to Four Island and reach its Pokemon Center.
Next to the Pokemon Center, there’s a small Pond, and if players use Surf there, Marill should spawn after swimming around.

Marill is a pure Water-type Pokemon in Gen 3 games (No Fairy-type here), and it evolves to Azumarill by raising its level to 18. Most of the Marill spawning in Four Island will be around that level (or more), so players won’t have any trouble acquiring Azumarill in a short span of time.
Azumarill learns a lot of powerful moves in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen, but perhaps its most notorious one would be Rollout, a Rock-type sequential attack that becomes stronger each time it hits. It is also a good candidate to learn Mega Punch or Mega Kick (through move tutor).
On that note, it can also learn most of the important Ice-type moves through TM, and is an especially good Blizzard and Ice Beam user. Although its stats are not as impressive as they should be (420 BST), it is a nice Water-type Pokemon to have, with a good variety of moves.
