How to get rid of a Tick in PEAK

As you climb the mountain in PEAK, you might run into a Tick. You might not notice the little eight-legged parasite at first, but if you notice a steady supply of Poison seeping into your system from a source you can’t see, odds are you’ve picked up a hitchhiker.

If you’re on an expedition with a group of friends, removing a Tick is a pretty simple matter. If you’re climbing to the roof of the world alone, you might have to pull off a tricky bit of parkour to un-Tick yourself.

Unless you’re super observant, you probably won’t notice that a Tick’s burrowed into your leg until one of your friends notices the little monster getting a free meal off you. Luckily, Ticks are pretty easy to remove when you’re part of a multiplayer expedition.

All a player has to do to remove a Tick is get in close and press “E” to yank the sucker out. If one of your friends sees that you’ve got a Tick, stand still and let them remove it. Vice versa, if you notice one of your friends has gotten Ticked, tell them to stay still until you can get close enough to take it out. If the Tick’s poisoned you, use an Antidote to cure yourself.

How to get rid of a Tick solo in PEAK

If you’re playing PEAK solo, removing a Tick is a lot harder. The opportunistic arachnids always dig themselves into your legs, which are hard to reach. Luckily, there is a way for solo players to eliminate them.

After feasting on your blood for a bit, the Tick will swell to the size of a tarantula. By this point, the Poison damage is almost certainly seeping in, so you’ll know it’s there. Once the Tick’s this big, all you need to do is bend over and press “E” to tear it off your leg.

If you think you have a Tick but can’t see it, climb up to a higher point on the mountain and drop (safely) to a lower ledge. The landing animation gives you a slightly better view of your character’s legs, so you might spot a Tick that hasn’t gotten up to full size yet.

What to do with a removed Tick in PEAK

Interestingly enough, a removed Tick counts as a full-blown item. As tempting as it might be to chuck the obnoxious blood-sucker off the mountain, there are a few good reasons to hold onto it.

For reasons I don’t even want to think about, a Tick counts as a berry. So, if you’re running out of food on an expedition, you can (urp) remove some Hunger by eating the Tick that was eating you. As a berry, eating a Tick will also give you progress on the “Foraging Badge” achievement, which asks you to eat five unique berries on a single expedition. Usually, you’ll run into a surplus of berries on your expedition, but if the harvest’s poor, eating a tick may be your only option.
