How to Land a Direct Hit with the Ex-Caliber Rifle in Fortnite

How to Land a Direct Hit with the Ex-Caliber Rifle in Fortnite

The second 14 Days of Summer quest in Fortnite tasks players with finding the Ex-Caliber Rifle and using it to land a direct hit on an opponent. Originally released during Fortnite’s Chapter 4: Season 1, the Ex-Caliber is a marksman rifle that shoots exploding blades rather than bullets. With the initial hit dealing damage and the subsequent explosion dealing the same damage again, it can wipe off huge amounts of health and shield off its target if players land a direct hit. Here’s where to find the Ex-Caliber Rifle and how to easily land a direct hit on an opponent.

The Ex-Caliber Rifle can be found in chests and as floor loot. This is similar to the Grapple Glove, which launched the 14 Days of Summer event. I found the Ex-Caliber Rifle in a chest in Froggy Floods, but any chest has the same chance of dropping it.

If you have a preferred location to drop in the Fortnite Super season, you should be able to find it here, too.

How to Land a Direct Hit with the Ex-Caliber Rifle in Fortnite

Find a Vantage Point and Wait

Landing a direct hit means you need the exploding blade that the rifle fires to hit the body (or head) of another player. In other words, it’s not enough for the blade to deal damage to an opponent due to them being in proximity to the explosion.

You’ll know that you’ve landed a direct hit with the Ex-Caliber Rifle because it will deal damage twice. Once when the direct hit lands on an opponent, and again when the blade explodes.

The easiest way to land a direct hit with the Ex-Caliber Rifle is to head to high ground around one of the busier named locations, such as Utopia City. Ideally, do this towards the beginning of a game when there are still a lot of players remaining. This way, you can sit and wait for a player to come searching for chests or loot (or get involved in a fight with another player) and take your time to line up the shot and land the direct hit.

The screenshots above show a perfect vantage point on the outskirts of Utopia City that can be used to land direct hits with the Ex-Caliber Rifle. It even has a bush that players can hide in.

This should be a relatively easy quest to complete once you’ve got the Ex-Caliber Rifle, and with the weapon coming in a bunch of different rarities, it shouldn’t be as tricky to find in chests as the Grapple Glove was for the first day of 14 Days of Summer.
