There are quite a few to choose from.
Mining is one of the most frequent tasks featured in every Star Path event in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Event duties often ask you to seek out specific types of Gems, like the mine for oval Gems task, and it can be a bit tricky to complete these.
There are over 40 Gems you can mine from around the Dreamlight Valley, Storybook Vale, and Eternity Isle. Sorting through all of them to figure out which ones qualify as oval can be pretty tricky, so here’s how to mine for oval Gems in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Which Gems are oval in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

Six Gems you can find around your village count as oval for this Star Path task. All of the special shiny versions of these Gems work too, if you happen to get lucky enough to find one of them instead.
Gem | Where to find |
---|---|
Aquamarine (+Shiny Aquamarine) | Can be mined from rock nodes around Dazzle Beach and the Forest of Valor. |
Blue Zircon (+Shiny Blue Zircon) | Can be mined from rock nodes in The Lagoon area if you have the A Rift in Time DLC. |
Citrine (+Shiny Citrine) | Can be mined from rock nodes around the Sunlit Plateau and Glade of Trust. |
Garnet (+Shiny Garnet) | Can be mined from rock nodes in the Plaza and Peaceful Meadow areas. If you have the A Rift in Time DLC, it can also be found around The Wastes and The Plains sections of the Glittering Dunes biome. |
Peridot (+Shiny Peridot) | Can be mined from rock nodes around Dazzle Beach and Peaceful Meadow. With the A Rift in Time DLC, it also spawns in rocks around The Promenade and The Grasslands in the Wild Tangle biome. |
Tourmaline (+Shiny Tourmaline) | Can be mined from rock nodes around the Frosted Heights and Sunlit Plateau regions. |
Despite being the same shape as all other Gems that work for this task, Alexandrite doesn’t count. There’s nothing different about this specific Gem, but for some reason, it doesn’t track for the Star Path duty.
Many other Gems might appear oval-shaped, especially if you look at them when dropped on the ground. Opal, for example, is quite round but doesn’t count for this task. Focus only on the six Gems that count to get this one done.
Although you can find an array of Gems available for sale once you unlock Aladdin’s stall, any Gems purchased from him won’t count for this task. Mining is an essential part of it, so you must put in the work to collect the Gems required for this task yourself.
Mine for oval Gems in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To complete the mine for oval Gems duty for the Garden of Whimsy Star Path, you need to mine a total of 20 Gems that count as oval. Not all Gems are oval, and many of them are categorized for the mine for square Gems task, so you must seek out the right ones to get this task done.
Completing this task gets you 25 Tokens to spend in the Star Path event. It’s the maximum amount you can get for finishing one task, so although this one can take a bit to get done, it’s certainly worth doing. If you need more Tokens for the event, consider giving any restaurateur in the valley their favorite gifts, chatting with a curious young villager, and digging up a root vegetable with many eyes.
