How to save in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

How to save in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

You might think how to save in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond would come up during one of the game’s initial tutorials or maybe in conversation with good ol’ Miles Mackenzie. And you’d be wrong. This is old-school Metroid, which means not only does it expect you to figure saving out for yourself, but it also only gives you one reliable way to record your progress.

Below, we explain how to save in Metroid Prime 4 and what’s going on with the game’s autosave feature.

The only way to manually save in Metroid Prime 4 is to visit a save station and record your progress there. Every location has at least one save station, and there’s a small handful of them scattered around the open-world desert. However, the spacing of them in places like Volt Forge and Fury Green is not generous, so you can expect to go for long periods of time without running across a save station.

Acquiring a region’s map won’t mark save station locations. Like with every other important place in Metroid Prime 4, everything remains greyed out until you explore the spot yourself. However, if you’re in an area with a small room off to the side and haven’t seen a save station in a while, there’s a good chance said room is a save point. Definitely make sure to check it out.

Also, don’t forget that save stations replenish energy and missiles. If you’re running low and can’t find enemies or containers to get restorative items from, you can always trek back to a save point even if you don’t need to save.

Metroid Prime 4 does have an autosave function, but it’s not something you should rely on for between-save-station help. It only seems to work after major events, like a cutscene, boss fight, or arena-style fight where waves of enemies ambush Samus.
