The Cryolophosaurus is a menacing-looking creature that you can tame and add to your party in ARK Survival Ascended if you own the Lost Colony DLC.
While it looks like a traditional dinosaur, the Cryolophosaurus has a Cryo pod near its mouth that it uses to throw blasters. This guide will provide you with all the necessary information required for taming this genetic anomaly.
Best Cryolophosaurus location in ARK Survival Ascended
The Cryolophosaurus is a relatively common spawn that can be found throughout the northern, western, and eastern parts of the maps. You can encounter it directly in the wild and try to tame it. This is in stark contrast to other creatures like the Gigadesmodus that require you to take down the Alpha Lost King.

I have marked some of the locations on the screenshot above. These aren’t specific locations; they’re zones where the Cryolophosaurus can potentially spawn on the map.
How to tame a Cryolophosaurus in ARK Survival Ascended
To tame a Cryolophosaurus, you’ll first have to knock it out. You’re going to need decent gear, a dino mount, and most importantly, a shield. You can use the Riot Shield or a Metal Shield. The Cryolophosaurus has two attacks: the Blizzard Shot and Torpo Blasts.
To take down the creature, you don’t have to use your guns. Instead, avoid the Blizzard Shot by using a mount. But stay close to the creature so that the fight doesn’t reset. To knock it out, you’ll have to parry the Torpo Blasts.
You don’t need to perfect parry by any means; just hold the shield up, and it should do the job. The fight will take some time, depending on how well you can avoid and parry its attacks. If you get hit by the attacks, you’ll freeze, and your movements will become slower.

Once you manage to knock out the creature, just wait for the timer to be up, and you’ll have received your brand new Cryolophosaurus. If you’re in for a bigger challenge, you can try getting the Gigadesmodus.
If you don’t want to explore the map to find a Cryolophosaurus, you can also choose to use console commands if they’re enabled on your server.
