Of Ash and Steel puts a lot of emphasis on finding different items and exploring the lands, but it can be a difficult task to do the same without a map.
Being inspired by old-school RPGs, Of Ash and Steel does things pretty differently. Your early hours will be spent without any map, and you will have to complete quests by reaching different locations, having no markers to depend on.
This guide will explain the exact system of how the map works, and when you can obtain it in Of Ash and Steel.
Does Of Ash and Steel have a map
While you don’t get a map at the start of your adventures, Of Ash and Steel does have one for different regions. Once you unlock the feature, the map will make your life easier. It’s almost necessary as the areas tend to get more complex as you clear the initial chapters and begin the latter acts.
How to get the map in Of Ash and Steel
The exact method of obtaining a map in Of Ash and Steel remains unknown at this point. According to the community, the map should be obtainable once you have cleared Chapter 1 quests (Act 1).

This is going to take a noticeable amount of time, as there are plenty of quests to complete before you reach that point. You’ll first have to complete the quests on the shore, followed by some more tasks, before you get to access Chapter 1.
While I am on the first act as of writing, I haven’t figured out how to get the map yet. Once I do so, I will update the guide about the exact way of completing the task. According to the community, we can also add our own notes on the map for it to store more information.
Until you get the map, the only option is to use buildings and navigation markers while exploring the land. That will prevent you from getting lost and make it easier for you to work towards an objective.
