Fans of the franchise were recently treated to Hunter X Hunter: Nen X Impact, a 2D fighting game featuring several iconic characters from the manga and anime. While the game received mixed reviews on Steam and didn’t gain much popularity with critics, its publisher, Bushiroad Inc., seems to be working on a new project, this time in a completely different genre.
Hunter X Hunter: Nen X Survivor Seems to Be a Brotato-Like Roguelike Game
In a short video announcement, publisher Bushiroad Inc. revealed that its upcoming project, Nen X Survivor, is a survival roguelike mobile game for iOS and Android, planned for release in 2026. In terms of gameplay, Nen X Survivor appears similar to games like Brotato, featuring a top-down view and constant hordes of enemies that players must defeat using character abilities and power-ups. A notable feature is the ability to create a “dream team” with iconic Hunter X Hunter characters like Gon, Killua, Hisoka, and Netero. Currently, there is no preregistration for the game, but fans can follow its official Twitter account to stay updated on new announcements.
Like most roguelike mobile games, Nen X Survivor appears to prioritize movement, with characters automatically attacking nearby enemies. The announcement video also suggests there may be a story or campaign, along with role-playing elements to customize character abilities and stats. It’s still unclear whether unlocking Hunter X Hunter characters will involve gacha mechanics or progression-based methods. What has been confirmed is that the game will feature in-app microtransactions, which could imply that some iconic heroes or their cosmetic items may require payment to unlock.
Despite its name’s similarity to Bushiroad’s previous project, the upcoming Nen X Survivor doesn’t appear to be related to the anime-style fighter game Nen X Impact. That said, some fans are excited, seeing the name as a possible hint at the future expansion of the “Nen” series. Others feel Bushiroad may not be the ideal developer for Hunter X Hunter games, arguing that its performance with Nen X Impact should have prompted the franchise to seek a stronger partner.
