Two more skins have been recently announced. But it looks like Marvel Rivals devs love some characters more than others, as Peni (and her skins) is forgotten once more.
If anything Marvel Rivals has a diverse cast of characters. From those immensely popular due to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (like the Avengers, Spider-Man, Rocket Racoon, and the like), to those found mainly in comic books (like Adam Warlock, Peni Parker, Namor, etc). And, as the Marvel universe is vast, a lot of those characters have various iterations, which Marvel Rivals uses as inspiration for new skins. Both them and making some more-or-less original ones. Or simple recolors.
Peni Is Lacking in Skins in Marvel Rivals, While Others Keep Getting More
Peni Parker is a lesser-known character (compared to others, that is), an alternate “version” of Spider-Man from Earth-14512. As for her representation in the game, the devs have been a bit lazy, as she only has three additional Costumes, two of which are simple recolors of the original skin, and the last one has a bit more effort but is made with PlayStation players in mind (free for PS+ users, others have to pay for it). Compare that with others who at least have something better than recolors going on for them.
To add insult to injury, NetEase recently revealed two more skins, one for Spider-Man and one for Iron Man, both of them steam-themed, inspired by alternate timelines.
This is great news for Spider-Man and Iron Man mains, but a lot of players are miffed, especially since it looks like Spider-Man gets new skins every now and then. But Peni mains feel most betrayed by this, as their options are arguably non-existent. “I mean saying 4 is glorifying it a little. Two recolours (one arguably way worse than the original) a default and one skin that is only free to playstation players, everyone else has to play like £16 for it assuming they have no currency already. “ said SwingyWingyShoes on Reddit, and “2 recolors and 1 barely a remodel that’s no different from a recolor…Please I’m dying of skin drought…” added EvilLoliAtheist.
Others state the fact that Peni is actually a popular choice in the game so it is really demoralizing to see her getting ignored like this, especially as there are different versions of her in the comics/movies (like from “Into the Spider-Verse”, from 2018).
We know that the most popular characters get the most attention which translates into better revenue, but the community is aware that Spider-Man has enough skins at this point. Others need some love too (especially with Spider-Man being the most banned character in Competitive).
