“I Think I Miss the Squids” Helldivers 2 Players Ponder the Future Following the Battle for Super Earth

Helldivers won! The Battle for Super Earth is finished, and the Squids are long gone by now. The Galactic War continues, with players returning to bug and bot fronts. However, now that this colossal event is over, the question remains – what does the future hold for Helldivers 2?

Helldivers Loved the New Enemies, SEAF Troops, and the Mega Cities

Now, the Heart of Democracy may have been the best update so far. It gave the players SEAF troops and various new enemies. It also introduced fighting in the streets of mega cities and plenty of intricate details. The Battle for Super Earth ended around 24 hours ago, and the players are already missing all the chaos, gore, and the Squids.

HighlightWooden noted: “Honestly, I really hated fighting the squids until the new units were added, they were just really annoying and not fun to fight. But after new units, I re-discovered the eruptor. Easily the most fun I’ve had since I started. Eruptor + Stalwart FTW”.

Players explained that after fighting the Squids for almost two weeks, the other factions felt too easy. The combination of new enemies and mega cities made the Helldivers change up their gameplay and think outside the box. Obviously, they enjoyed the challenge.

Thernislav stated: “The way they operated forced you and your squad to bring very versatile equipment to deal with different threats on their roster, which made gameplay weirdly challenging and therefore refreshing. I can run solo missions on 10 against bots and bugs, but I could never do it against the Illuminate”.

Players Have Managed Expectations for the Future of Helldivers 2

We love the fact that the latest update was so amazing that the majority of players are satisfied and not asking for more. Sure, everyone would love for a new event to drop right away, but the players are more than happy to help rebuild mega cities for a while.

One player, subtleduck42, suggested: “A fairly vanilla ‘rebuild arc’ would be just fine. ‘Kill a billion bugs for oil’ + ‘kill a billion bots for scrap’ followed by a ‘reclaim our territory lost to the bugs and bots’ would be an easy narrative win for a low-key arc after such a high-stakes event. Maybe even throw in a similar order for ramping up our weaponry/fleet for when we find and pursue the squids. A patch for bug fixes + one new warbond will hold most of us over. That’ll give us plenty to rave and rant about”.

Truth be told, we could all use a change of pace and slowing down a bit. And, of course, all the Helldivers who thrive in high-stress situations should be aware that this is probably the way the devs will choose, so they should manage their expectations.

So, dear Helldiver, enjoy fighting the bugs and the bots for now. The Squids will definitely be back, but we’ll be ready. In the meantime, we’ll be spending some time with the bugdivers, we’ve neglected the bug front a bit. Will you join us? For Liberty and Super Earth.
