Helldivers 2’s CEO Shams Jorjani has revealed that, although Arrowhead Game Studios supported the decision, Sony’s role was crucial in bringing the game to Xbox. On August 26, Xbox players will finally be able to join the Helldivers 2 battlefield in a historic day for the entire video game industry.
Arrowhead has known how to handle the post-launch development of Helldivers 2 pretty well, with the game evolving at the speed of light. Thanks to Helldivers 2’s unique live service approach, Arrowhead has managed to evolve the game a lot over the last year and a half, delivering the content that fans ask for, addressing their feedback, and more. The game has a steady flow of updates, constantly adding new features, enemies, missions, weapons, and much more; however, the game’s most impressive innovation is yet to happen on August 26, when Helldivers 2 will come to Xbox, marking the first Sony-published game on Microsoft consoles. Although Arrowhead should be credited for this, the studio’s head said fans shouldn’t think the developer was mainly responsible for it.
Arrowhead CEO Says Sony Is Mainly Responsible for Bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox
In an exchange between Helldivers 2’s CEO Shams Jorjani and players on the game’s official Discord channel, he revealed that Sony is the one players should be thanking: “It was all PlayStation,” he wrote. Even though he acknowledges Arrowhead’s role in bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox Series X/S, he made it clear this was Sony’s call, adding, “I think it’s one of the coolest things they’ve done. They’re killing it.” Jorjani also praised Sony by saying that Arrowhead gets a lot of help from PlayStation’s testing and bug-fixing teams.
The release of Helldivers 2 on Xbox will be the end of an era for the console war that will not only be marked by Arrowhead’s game coming to Microsoft platforms, but also the launch of Xbox’s Gears of War: Reloaded on PS5 the same day. While it’s true that Sony has been bringing PlayStation exclusives to PC, such as God of War (2018), Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Ghost of Tsushima, and several more, this is the first time in history that these two rivals will be publishing a game from their main competitor.
Although it’s likely that Arrowhead won’t be releasing any new update for the game until it launches on Xbox, the studio did reveal it is working on a batch of new enemies for Helldivers 2. Additionally, several existing enemies will be improved, aiming to ramp up difficulty following some players’ concerns about the game feeling easy. As Arrowhead continues working to content Helldivers 2 players, Xbox users have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming weeks.
