It’s been a little over a month since the First Free Title Update. The Grand Hub was added, and with it, plenty of new content and even a new minigame! However, even though it’s been in-game for quite a while, many Monster Hunter Wilds players are still having trouble with the Barrel Bowling.
Is the Barrel Bowling Rigged, or Do You Need to Practice More?
Well, honestly, it’s a bit of both. But the good news is that you can fix one of those two things! Then you’ll be able to get the A rank (500+ points) and all eight rewards! Naturally, the MH Wilds community stepped in and offered some advice.
IsaacPol noted: “You can aim it with r2. I always stand by the arrow I need on the floor, then I aim up and a bit to the side I want. Each day you get a different layout, some are crazy hard while others are super easy”.
Now, we were quite surprised to see that a month in, plenty of players were unaware that they could aim. There is a prompt in your top right corner that’ll tell you which button to use for aiming (probably R2 or LBM). Still, even then, it might be tough to hit that 200. How to improve even more?
Well, you can try shifting the camera to get a better view (check the controls, usually L2/CTRL). This will orient the camera to the direction you’re facing, and you might be surprised by how off you are.
MozzTheMadMage added: “Are you aiming in the same place? You can aim while holding the barrels… typically, I focus the crosshair on different jars from different positions until I find a path that works. Repeat throws don’t usually vary that much, give or take slight differences here and there at most”.
Some Monster Hunter Wilds Players Swear the Minigame Is Rigged
Some players have had plenty of bad luck in this minigame, unfortunately. So, a part of the Monster Hunter Wilds community still strongly believes that Barrel Bowling is completely randomized and that skill might not play a big role.
VictusFrey stated: “I’m convinced the second barrel is rigged to roll differently than expected. On two different paths, the first throw always goes as expected but the second throw, 9 times out of 10 loves to screw me”.
Reyat_Ramtahal added: “Honestly, I think A rank is the highest reasonable score, I don’t believe you can hit the 200 decoy at the end a second time. My highest score is around 530, it’s honestly still rng with a good line”.
So, dear hunter, keep practicing, but don’t expect the perfect score! Of course, Barrel Bowling is just for when you need a break from the real deal! The new Challenge Quest is quite demanding, and we hear plenty of players need all the tips on how to defeat the AT Rey Dau solo in under 13 minutes. Enjoy and happy hunting.
